I just started listening to it like 30 minutes

You can tell some songs are songs he wrote and recorded from a long time just by the way he use to sound versus how he sounds now

I’m listening to “Pop Da Trunk” and this sounds like every bit of the 2000’s

Same thing I said earlier in the thread.

And now that I had a chance to listen more, this is definitely more like Doc's Da Name 2. Same exact vibe, and flow. Not having more production from E holds this project back, for me. It's a cool album, and I like some of it, but we really needed to see those two back at it again. Especially after waiting for so long. You can't do a Muddy Waters project and have only one beat from Sermon on it. That's wild.

My thoughts exactly as I’m listening to it now

Album ain’t got that laid back, bass driven funky “moody” smooth feel that the original does.

It’s keeping my interest because production wise it’s not boring and Red is still Red just older and and more laid back but for this to be the sequel, he really should’ve let E do the bulk of the production

I also think he could’ve trimmed the album down to just 21- 23 songs like he typically does instead of 32

I listened to the whole album last night, early this morning

He can still rap obliviously but I guess it’s more just him seemingly having more fun now and being older and the major difference is that aggressive energy in his flow and wittiness in his lyrics is long gone

Some songs are definitely from the 2000’s, you can tell because his flow and voice is different and of course some of the references. His voice has gone thru two different changes, there was a change in the 2000’s and there there’s a noticeable change in it now.

Because ever since Red Gone Wild and even still on this Muddy Waters 2 on various songs, he sounds more like the funny uncle now.

Granted, Red made his mark in the game decades ago and he is a legend, of the best emcees of all time; but this album is basically a legendary emcee way past his prime just having fun. Albums like these I don’t necessarily count because there post prime albums.

I think Red Gone Wild marked when Red became the “old” man but Muddy Waters 2 cements and that’s ok, he is 55 (I know that’s not really old but in terms of hip hop lol)

He made his mark decades ago and is a legend and one of the best emcees of all time

I said it in the last thread before after listening to Malpractice yesterday and then Muddy Waters 2, Malpractice now doesn’t sound half as bad as it did in 2001 compared to Muddy Waters 2

I've barely listened to it, but I heard a few joints on there that I liked.

The thing with Red now that I'm still not used to, is the lighthearted funny vibe his music has now. I spend all day listening to the first three albums, and his features from like '91-'97, so I'm still a fan of the more hardcore rugged style he used to have. So when I hear the new sh*t he's done, it just seems a little like it doesn't have the raw "banger" quality we loved from him back in the day.

Even the beats he makes now don’t really hit like before. It's hard for me to get used to the shift in his style, lol.

The metaphors and rhymes just seem like he’s just throwing whatever together now
