You know what's interesting to me

nobody ever talks about Doc's Da Name

and i get it, to "hip hop" heads and non casuals, it's viewed as his commercial album, but at the same time, as much as cats pay attention to numbers and celebrate platinum status, hardly any love is shown to Doc's Da Name

i love Doc's Da Name. I have good memories to that album. 98 was such a great year in hip hop and def jam was killin shyt. man come to think about it 98 might be my fav year in hip hop that i can actually remember vividly.

DMX - IDAHIH
Jay-Z - Vol 2
Belly Sdtrk
Meth - T2000
Red - Doc's Da Name
DJ Clue - The Professional
DMX - Flesh of my flesh...

I understand his personal feelings about Dare Iz A Darkside but it’s prob my favourite album of his. Docs Da Name is up there too because it was the first Redman album I actually bought myself and there was one point where my cd collection got stolen and all I had was Docs Da Name and Operation Stackola left on tape so I only had those to listen to for a while.

I felt he took a step back lyrically with that album. He was still nice but it wasn't like how it was with the 1st 3 albums.

times had changed and im sure he had too as a person/artist to some degree

it's hard as an artist to keep the same energy going because people grow and evolve and sometimes where they're at as a person, isn't always in sync with where the audience is either.

When artists rank their own albums of course we as fans will disagree with the rankings, but the opinion of the artist is the only right one. I always find it interesting because artists tend to rank their albums based on whatever place in life they were when they recorded it. We tend to rank them based on how they sound and our opinion is swayed by wherever we were in life when we heard the album.
