Around Doc's the name is when he started to lean into the comedy shyt a la Eminem where it started becoming a little corny. Especially compared to how his persona was in the early 90s (if you where there you know). I kinda stopped listening after that... never even really heard Malpractice but I heard it was trash (for him).

Doc Da’s Name more light hearted but still sharp

Far from Dare or Whut but no slouch, just more laughs

Malpractice was the first real “uh oh” moment but that’s just Red in crisis control with a few beats that were forgettable

However it was over after Malpractice

I hate how some nikkas hate on Doc’s Da Name and I halfway think it’s because that album actually sold so well that a lot of heads shy away from because that view that as an album that casuals even enjoyed too

He's properly rated. 1st 3 are legit classics, and Doc's Da Name is a good album.

Everything after that has been downward ok to atrocious.
a lot of people say shyt like this about eminem and his first 3. i dont agree with that but its an interesting parallel especially given that him and red are destroying their legacies (however newer redman is light years better than new marshall).

its funny some dudes in here are shytting on red and calling him mid knowing damn well they stan clifford "somehow never heard of Q-Tip and calls himself Tip anyway" harris, who's never even made one classic album, much less three. :francis:

i dunno what i was expecting from a grown man with a mortal kombat avatar anyway :yeshrug:

Easily underrated

Alot of rappers from that pure rapping standard got pushed to the side nowadays because everything is a gimmick or visual.
it doesnt age well for kids who have no clue what hiphop was back in the day
when you only had a cassette tape and barely any videos ... the way redman was spitting was like reading a book or visualizing a comic ... you could listen over and over and see the story and songs in your mind

Like ghostface, it just became not as profitable to continue once the fans started to turn
he jumped into movies, tv shows, touring with meth etc... he would still deliver but it wasnt with the same crew or the same level of caring
the last album was pretty dope though

Just him, Meth, Snoop, Cypress Hill etc are legends for being the Mt Rushmore of weed, kids wont even be able to understand that either because now you can just buy weed at a store. There was a point 10-15 years ago nikkas were smoking brown weed with seeds all up in that bytch, you had to get a good connect to even find some Dro or anything with some body to it.

Damn near a decade run

Great 4 album run

1 great Def Squad

1 great duo album with Meth

Can’t name too many who’ve had a run quite like that

Nobody stays on top forever and what goes up must come down, so falling off is inevitable
I dont disagree, but unlike some of his peers in that era (Nas jay snoop Az ghost scarface). he never made a great album post 2000 and thats really rough......Ima big red fan tho, Id say blackout2 might have been the best post 2000

The flip side of that is none of them had a consistent run like Red did in the 90’s

Not a single one

Red was beyond his prime on Blackout 2. Meth stole the show on that.
