DEM BOW is pretty much an homage to Shabba Ranks. When Shabba blew up, heads out in Panama, DR and PR loved that shyt, so much that they used that beat for every track, to the point where that particular style of reggaeton is simply called dem bow. It's only a rip off of something if you don't acknowledge the source. Not only is the source acknowledged, it's named after the source.
Now I don't like reggaeton myself, but not only was it not commercial, even to this day, it's simply a mix of reggae and the latin hip hop that doesn't spread much further than the confines of Latin America and the people who live here. The genre truly didn't get anywhere near commercial til Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, and Tego Calderon started signing US Major Label deals.
El General (the reggaeton GAWD as far as I'm concerned) did what you hear in those Taco Bell commercials-- take a popular song, sing it in Spanish and then boom- subgenre born.

I'm dominican but I can't stand any of this hispanic music shyt. My cousins always blast this in their house and it has me with a combination of 
I hated it when it was poppin back in the day, but now that im learning Spanish(tryna get fluent) I started listening to don omar & wisin & yandel (no sure if they are considered reggaeton), I tryed daddy Yankee, but couldnt get into him (maybe from my hate of his stuff back in the day), but now that tego calderon was brought up, im about to get some of his stuff and see if he is any good
Im looking for any type of music in Spanish if some of you Spanish speakers know of any besides that
