Reggie Rose upbeat on Bulls
Doesn't rule out brother Derrick coming back against Heat but believes team could win anyway because of defense

Before Reggie Rose saw his little brother go down, he heard it.
"The air came out of the stadium," he recalled.
The ACL in Derrick Rose's left knee gave out on April 28, 2012.
With the Bulls up big midway through the fourth quarter in Game 1 of their playoff series against the 76ers, Reggie left his courtside seat at the United Center to visit family in Suite L45.
"I was like: The Bulls are cruising now," he said.
With the Bulls leading by 12 with less than 90 seconds to go, Reggie looked away.
"My focus was away from the court for a second," he said. "Then it was like: 'Oh, my gosh.'"
Reggie tore his MCL and ACL during a college career that took him from Garden City (Kan.) Community College to Idaho, so he knew what Derrick had done before an MRI at Rush University Medical Center made it official.
"When he stood up, I could tell," he said Saturday at halftime of the Bulls' triple-overtime thriller. "His knee was bending; it did not hold in place."
Rose's teammates knew, as well.
"Saddest win ever," Kyle Korver said at the time.
Looking back, Joakim Noah called it "a dark day. We won that playoff game but Derrick getting hurt, I'll probably remember that day for the rest of my life."
John Lucas III, who called Derrick Rose "like a younger brother to me," was among the Bulls who showered, jumped in their car and headed to the hospital.
"Damn near the whole team went," said Lucas, who played for the Raptors this season. "Nobody told us to do it. We just went to support him."
Rose is back with the team now. Sort of.
He showed up to the United Center hours before Saturday's Game 4, launching jumpers. Then he sat toward the end of the bench next to Taj Gibson at tipoff.
"He has been working hard and getting a lot of shots up every day," Reggie said. "Most of all, he is getting his mind ready, getting comfortable with his body. I think (his mind) is probably at a good 90 percent now."
When asked if it needs to be 100 percent to return, Rose replied: "His 100 percent might not be your 100 percent. It's hard. But the Bulls organization has basically told him: We support you. When you are ready, we will welcome you with open arms."
Like coach Tom Thibodeau, Rose has not ruled out his brother returning for a potential series with the Heat.
"I think anything is possible," he said.
In comments made to ESPN.com in February, Rose was critical of Bulls' management, saying: "It's frustrating to see my brother play his heart and soul out for the team and them not put anything around him."
But Rose is now, well, bullish on the team.
"No matter what, if (Derrick) is playing or not, I still think it would be a competitive series (with the Heat) because of the way the Bulls defend," he said.
Rose said that when his brother does come back, "the game will come to him a little easier. It will be slower. You can learn from watching the game. And he's learning from Coach Thibs, so he can see what Coach Thibs needs on certain plays."
Lucas wishes people would stop pressuring Rose to return and said that when he does, "he will come back bigger, faster, stronger, more explosive and more athletic. People don't understand how hungry he will be."

Did Reggie Rose play basketball at any level?
Reggie never has said he was or could have been as good as Derrick, but he was not too shabby. He led the city in scoring as a 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior guard at Hubbard High School. Reggie was set to accept a scholarship offer to play at Cincinnati, but poor entrance test scores ruled out that possibility, according to news reports.
DePaul and Iowa also had recruited him. He initially went to Garden City (Kan.) Community College, where he helped lead the team to 43 victories in two seasons. Reggie then played at Idaho after assistant coach Ray Jones recruited him relentlessly.
