You honestly think the average poster know how to change IPs?

Will it stop everyone? No, but again stupid shyt will get automatically identified with functionality added to Reps.

No more running to mods to ban people when a poster spouts racist shyt and your rep goes from 10+ to -2500.

ffs .. do better please. residential ip address change automatically over time and are shared between households over time :hhh:

residential public IP addresses as allocated by an ISP typically can be changed by the ISP at any time. changes usually happen as the router does a DHCP call to obtain an address during start-up but may not happen every time. the change schedule is entirely up to the ISP unless you have been allocated an explicit static address.

the net result of this is that residential public IP addresses are shared between different unrelated households over time.

for example at xfinity;

"All Comcast Internet customers have a dynamic IP address. ... Business-class Internet customers have the option of adding a static IP address — one that does not change."
Static IP address - Xfinity Help and Support Forums - 3285663

secondly, if you are working on a private sub-domain behind an aggregated big IP there is no 1-to-1 correlation between your public IP and you or your internet traffic. by banning the public IP a company could simultaneously inadvertently ban thousands of other people / potential customers.

i should neg you twice for posting that nonsense.

Neg me then you myopic fukk, like everybody has dynamic addresses and nobody has static. Then ignore the fact of over time, again you think the average poster knows when their IP changes.

Typical IT fukkboi:pacspit: go show off you DeVry degree somewhere else.

You right, it does
It's xenophobic asf.

Coli xenophobic? There are a bunch of white and non black posters running around this site doing all kinds of fukkery. The only they they get banned is when they drop hard er’s and even then.

That aside, closed registration and xenophobia are not equivalent nor interchangeable. What you talking bout breh?

Also you guys are overestimating the importance and popularity of forums these days. Forum posters are a dying breed. People have all kinds of social media and platforms to engage in now.

Only people that know or care about forums, specifically the coli, are likely people that have lurked this place for a long time and I do believe a substantial amount of those will be cac trolls, bgol and boxden trolls, lipstick alley trolls, and just trolls in general

I really can’t fathom all these positives you guys think will come with open registration. It will be the exact same topics and conversations, with a slight uptick on random twitter conversations and screenshots being posted because it will be more people in general, but with more fukkery and aggravating shyt going on.

I won’t be surprised if we start getting weekly “Fellas, does a body count matter to you?” Or “Why do black men get so aggravated when their preference doesn’t prefer them?” type topics :rudy:

be careful with this open registration shyt. coli is full of dumb nikkas but most are at least tolerable

That was me commenting on the valid point that this site can at times be a place where everybody thinks relatively the same way and is hostile toward any opinion that might be considered different.

Exactly. And people keep saying if we keep registration closed then interest in this site will fade but it seems to me like The Coli still is pretty popular. I look at how many people post and how many guests lurk and even on slow days at off-peak times, it's still in the thousands of people who are on here.

Hope they keep it the way it is.

@BigSteppa the only member on this site to join in 2020, very few joined in 2019.

it's actually quite amazing how active this place has remained with membership closed since 2017, but I think it's time to open up the flood gates.

add some moderators who have the power to clean up in WS bs that comes in, restrictions to the new posters, keep them on a short leash for their sus behavior, but this place getting a little repetitive. we need new membership, i hate to say it but it's gonna die out without it.

agreed, I love theColi but we def need some new blood, SOME peeps act like it's a members only club, which is corny imo

I've posted about this many times before but if and only if there is a revamped, rigorous moderation system that is tested and put in place.
More mods, sub mods. Mobs should be able to perma-ban, IP ban, sub mods can bush and give out timed bans.

Open up a random week, once per month. Need some sort of system to prevent bots and alt spamming.

The Coli as is, is absolutely not equipped for the Internet of 2021.

Who makes the decision on this? Who can actually make it happen?
