how have you or your friends been affected

I live in a black neighborhood and thats comes with daily proselytizing. whether it be on the bus, train, or walking down the fukking street i'm accosted and my ears bombarded by these boisterous, mega-phone preaching zealots. I would literally have to stay home and turn off my tv and and radio to keep from being indoctrinated by people espousing various christian-judeo religious beliefs. I have family and friends who will go to church and pray for an illness before they go to a hospital. I dont want the people i love and care about suffering because of some bullshyt beliefs. you know how many times i've been called or told by people i "respected" that they had a dream/premonition about me and warn me about some bullshyt they saw while they were asleep. This kind of paranoia is rife through the black community and people are so comfortable indulging this nonsense and I look around and i'm the only one like this:snoop:.. I've lost friends and dont even bother communicating with some family members because they're constantly trying to recruit me to their church and way of thinking. the fact of the matter is being a minority within a minority is not easy but I have to be true to myself. I grew up in a conservative household, subjected to morning prayers, daily devotionals, bible camp every summer till i was 13, church service 2-5 times a week and I never believed. I'm an adult now and no amount of proselytizing will ever make me believe in anyone's religion or deity.

Some of ya'll be looking for any and everything other than yourselves to blame for your station in life.

Not quite.

For what you will find is that, It's not necessarily what we do in life, but rather, what other do that become our 'downfall' in life.

irony is I believe in god, and ive never met in person an atheist that is more successful than me. most successful people I know believe in some form of higher power.
there were successful dudes in the aztec societies, who believed that god needed a human heart sacrifice so that plants would grow :skip:

i think there could be a god, all i know is that no human knows who or what he is. thats why the arrogance and ignorance of religion disgusts me :scusthov:

Actually, studies have shown that people are the least religious that they've ever been, which would explain why the world is so "fcked up" now.

Most religions encourage people to be positive, kind, and to love one another. It encourages others to think of others instead of only thinking about themselves. Make decisions that are morally right. The law of attraction stuff does that as well.

Also, most Africans are religious and believe in God who they usually call Allah, so Idk why a lot of you keep trying to say black people weren't religious until they became American slaves.

Actually the world has never lived in such peaceful times. Violent crime rates GLOBALLY are dropping compared to decades past. Now that the Cold War is over, the remaining superpowers are destabilizing less and less countries. Modern tech has revolutionized medicine, food supply, and provided logistical means to transport goods to remote parts of the world.

Whats different now is that the internet puts EVERY instance of chaos and disaster in the limelight. And the past 20 years has been OUR generations time to struggle (every generation goes through it).

The major concern we WILL face in the future is scarce resources. The emergence of India and China and the destabilization of the middle east changed everything.

Slightly off topic, but two questions:

Why is Islam so popular among black Americans? I don't just mean the Nation of Islam either, but Sunni/Shia Islam? What appeal does Islam have that Christianity doesn't have?

Also, which denomination of Christianity do black Americans tend to follow? Catholicism or Protestantism? Do they choose Catholicism because Protestantism is synonymous with their imperialist Anglo oppressors?

Not religious, don't have a problem with those who are. I'm just genuinely curious.

there was a time where most Black Americans were Christians (like how most are today) and you had people from the Nation Of Islam like Malcolm, or even people who were from the 5 % Nation Of Gods and Earths that believed in Allah but used Islam to empower black people. many people thought about it and converted. but for as Blacks becoming Sunni/Shia, well for example you had numerous black people in Philly who converted from NOI to Sunni after Malcolm X died. people just went to find out the ''real Islam''.

i believe in Allah and i also never seen no black person really disrespect another black person who is Muslim. in my opinion Islam is taken somewhat more serious than Christianity.

to piggyback off of @Raheem95 also the appeal Islam has is that the face of Islam are Arabs with a lil bit of African presence as well. Where as Christianity is dubbed "the white mans religion" (despite starting in the middle east lol). I believe American Blacks flocked to it a as sign of rebellion against Western White Supremacy.

And Black American Christians are FIRMLY protestant. Remember the early English settlers in the US were protestant so it makes sense their slaves would've been as well. Aside from the French and Spanish, Catholics didn't start coming to the States in high numbers until the 19th century.

No one said anything about peacful times in the whole world. The study was done in the U.S., I believe. I'm talking about people's values/beliefs/morals of today. It's like they have no shame about doing wrong. & yes, there was def a time in the u.s. where things were better, people could even leave their doors unlocked without worrying too much about anything happening. Things have changed a lot.

What do you mean peaceful times ? Are you talking about the last 50 years or more ?

Because someone might say that the previous century gave us the biggest conflict in the history of mankind.

the US isn't part of the whole world? Violent crime is down here too. Poverty rate sadly has climbed up since 2007 but that is easily attributed to the recession.

Morals, beliefs, and values are subjective. IM sure if you ask LGBT or people of Latino descent about how things are for them compared to generations past, they have it pretty good now.

The USA is no more better or worse than yesteryear. Its just more complex. And our society is evolving faster than most people can keep up.

Why the World Is Not Falling Apart

This is really subjective. You can't really say things are more peaceful when you look at il from a global perspective. Different crowds will give you different answers.
