hypnotic suggestability and pressure to conform basically. breh up top said reinforcing beliefs which is correct in this context. they may be having a genuine spiritual experience but it’s reinforced by the environment.. like the preying and chanting and clapping and music sets the tone for receptiveness. basically an induction ritual that is used world wide through cultures for the effect, shaminsm, native ceramonies, monk chanting etc

Some people are playing but some people are not. I’m more of a crying type & I do footwork at my work desk when I’m listening to gospel music. Other than that, I’m not as expressive spiritually.

Most likely. But you can’t deny that there is something of an uncanny resemblance to African indegenious religious practices. In fact, I think many of the practices in the black church, especially in the denominations that have “praise breaks” and “dancing” and “tongues” where people essentially go into trances are but remnants of things that our enslaved African ancestors brought over that was synergized into American Christianity. Much like Santeria and Candomble.

The idea of using music to “open” oneself up to court a “spirit”. The spirit then coming to “possess” you (filled with the Holy Ghost). The evidence being “dancing” (praise dancing), chanting (tongues), and any other trance like state. It’s all the same. I find it fascinating honestly.

Looks like people being taken over by "spirits". You know, just your run of the mill voodoo/vodun/santeria/candoble/umbanda ceremony. :coffee:

Edit:

Although, they do appear to be a bit more civilized than this, it’s pretty much identical-

I've had the holy spirit come over and I did not speak and tongues or do any of the things you mentioned, but it moved me, I can't explain it--but it moved me emotionally, and I felt it rise within me, like it's so hard to describe, but it is real.

Stop lying nikka..

And im not joking..

The bible bushed speaking in tongues..

Read 1st Corinthians 14..

Over and over and over, until it clicks..
"There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-10.

hmmm the bible never outright condemns suicide i don't believe, a few people actually kill themselves in the bible including Samson, but the bible sure lets you know that God does not forgive when it comes to playing with the holy ghost. In fact it says God will forgive ALL sins, except that one, so tread lightly breh:sadcam:

I had Bishop T.D. Jakes lay hands and prayed and prophesied over me at a revival service in Denver.

When it happened I didn't fall to the floor, but my knees got weak and unsteady, I cried out in voice and in tears.

The Holy Spirit is REAL.
