It seems like just a year or so ago everybody was going to Koch to put out their music "independently" and go make that $8 a cd sold :troll:

I know they had a name change and aren't known as Koch anymore, but it seems like that trend has ended and dudes are no longer chasing that $8 a cd sold...

Guess it wasn't really the easy feast they thought it would be :cook:

It wasn't that farfetched brehs .. maybe cam exxagerated on the $8 .. but the standard artist in a recording contract gets like 10 % of all profits earned on a project.

With Koch They were offering a 50/50 split If I remember correctly because the label didn't have to invest a lot. Since artists had to do the most work for promotion and got little to no advanced .. and had to do the leg work themserlves for the most part .. they deserved a significantly higher percentage on the comeback after distribution and other fees were taken out. I wouldn't be suprised if they were really making $3 or $4 a cd once they were in the grene. $8 is ridiculous though.

today, big major label artists are doing the numbers independent artists used to do back than and consider it a success, so it's reasonable to assume that koch's businessmodel might have been lucrative for artists in the past but isn't anymore.

Interned for Koch Records Canada before they became E1 Entertainment. A lot of guys who would have done well on Koch in the past just go to straight to itunes or digital labels now because of the lack of physical CDs being sold.

They also distributed nuff of those shytyy hip hop DVDs back in the day and a ton of non hip hop related artists like The Prodigy (XL/Koch) and all the WWE DVDs as well. I got box seats for WWE in Toronto at that time...

sO...DID THESE ARTIST MAKE 8 PER CD SOLD OR WHAT? not even talking about no namers. we're talking guys who once had a major deal and still had a heavy buzz, like say Cam, Jim Jones, etc.
