:what:

Today, in my philosophy class my professor was going on one of his usual meaningless rants about things completely unrelated to the class.. I was zoning in and out of sleep until I heard him mention Ferguson. Mind you, my professor is a 65 year old cac military veteran so I already assumed what his opinion was going to be but I never thought he was going to be so blatant with it.

He was generally speaking about how first reports are usually inaccurate and then began mentioning how Ferguson is a perfect example of that. I'm paraphrasing here but he said "african americans" were up in arms without even knowing the full story, he said reports came out later that Michael Brown had gun powder on his fingers which proves he was in close proximity with the cop, that he had weed in his system which altered his mind state and could have justified the six gun shots (absolutely ridiculous argument), and then said that even african american witnesses said that Michael Brown did not have his hands up. He then said that the grand jury should order a no bill but because they are afraid of riots they will not. He then, I'm being deadass serious here, said:

"Remember that Tyrone case in Florida? Everyone was ready to crucify Zimmerman but we later found out the facts and that Tyrone bashed his head on the concrete, I'm telling you folks first reports are generally always wrong."

Me and the other four black dudes in the class just looked at each other with a combination of

:stopitslime::dwillhuh::dahell:

Why do teachers/professors feel as if they have a right to say whatever they please?

Guessing you didn't say anything. By virtue of the fact that he had the name wrong, he has a biased POV and will only remember what is relevant to him. Everything we saw of Travon as a young man said that he was being a POS anyway, but thats how a lot of young kids act anyway coming up. Unfortunately, that was enough for a lot of white people to write him off outright.

You should have interjected, relayed the facts, and maybe even sparred with him on that. Since the trial, Zimmerman has stayed in the news and its ALL been bad. So, a kid who was up to dumb young man shyt, not necessarily that night, gets accosted by a hothead with courage brought forth by a gun. That IS fact, and rather than asking "Why do teachers/professors feel as if they have a right to say whatever they please?", you should be asking yourself why didn't you step in with facts? Authority figures can be wrong, and an excellent student is willing to present the professor with the problems with his own logic. It makes a better teacher for future pupils.

I knew I was going to be questioned on why I didn't say anything which is why I was hesitant on making this thread.. I just felt at the time it would be a pointless endeavor. The guy is not going to change his opinion no matter what facts I presented, he obviously didn't even care enough to remember Trayvon's name so no matter what I said it would go in one ear and out the other. I'm paying thousands of dollars for my classes and can't afford to fail. I know I should have said something and trust me I'm still pissed I didn't but at the time I just did not feel like it would amount to much.

That is the thing though. I don't fault you for not saying anything, afterall, he is an old-head, and they will be damned if some young'n tries to tell them they are wrong. On the other hand, your objective when you debate with others should not be to change their minds, but to mindfully show them the other side of their argument.

If they ignore it, fine, fukk em. But if they are a normal, rational, level-headed person, what you can say may color their opinion in the future when a particular subject comes up. You can give them a potentially game-changing perspective, and it allows them to analyze their own thoughts with a different lens.

You don't try to change anyone, breh. You respectfully give them the facts in your own way, so hopefully they mull it over themselves. At the very least, he had to chance to let the instructor know that he had at least one student who was willing to call him out if he said flagrantly dumb shyt.

Your teacher sounds like a real pos. you probably should have either A.) interjected and corrected him on the Trayvon Martin stuff or B) just walked out of class, but I don't fault you for not saying anything though

Nikka you should told that fool off in the most articulate way possible. Fukk just sitting there.

I had a professor once start talking some general stupid CAC shyt about my home country in class, passing off bad stereotypes as knowledge. I sonned that dude and shut him down right there... I'd never said a word in that class before then. The fakkit was stunned.
