Joint is still :ehh:

I remember this leaking start of 2005 & around 4/5 months later , he released the same vocals over a DJ Premier production.

I prefer DJ Premier's version but A.W.O.L came out out in the summer & this joint would've been perfect for a summer single which might've got more radio & video play, i can remember A.W.OL having good first week numbers for a independent release though, think it was around 15,000.

There was an original version of "The Come Up?" Hmm... things I learn every day.

But yeah, look at the difference a great beat makes. It's HUGE. I would have ignored the shyt out of "No Love" on its original beat. But with Premo, AZ sounds like a ghetto prophet.

Beats are the foundation of this hip hop shyt!

Wow..Premo's version is WAAAYY better...

WAAAAY WAAYY better.

And I feel like AZ re-spit his verses on the Premo joint. There's more energy and melody to his vocal delivery. Also threw away the generic RnB hook

This kinda shyt is the thing that aggravates me about modern rap fans who talk all this 'bars' shyt. Beats and vocal delivery are the most important things in a hip hop song. Period. That shyt is basic. Now if you have a superb rhyme to go with it, then you're approaching God status.

But the point is that you can't even be in the room if your beats are wack and your vocals are wack. We know what it is. Think about how many rappers would be in the GOAT convo if they hadn't wasted great verses on shyt beats.

This original version sounds like some Statik Selektah shyt. Sure it aint him?

Yea..I agree rappers need dope beats but most importantly beats that compliment THEM...I've seen artists take ok beats and make a really dope song from it...but that's the elite...what may be a dope beat for one artist may not be a dope beat for the next one...

bumping this classic now. It's unreal how good this song is. Feels like it came out in an alternative universe compared to what we're calling classic nowadays
