The reason why it came and went is that, generally speaking, most people don't like Trump, and low-key, a lot of people probably wished the bullet hit him because it would've put an end to MAGA and guaranteed the Dems victory in November.

Outside of his base, Trump nearly catching a headshot wasn't going to win him any extra votes outside of the ones already leaning his way. It's like when he caught COVID-19 and some people were talking that “sympathy votes” shyt, none of that mattered then and it's the same with this narrative.
