Real question

Is Exhibit C the last Hip Hop song that really blew up organically without a big label push?

I remember when Blaze first premiered it (along with Nas’s The Scientist) on a radio mix show. And wird of mouth was so bug they went ahead and dropped it as a single

Just about every Chief Keef single when he first popped up and a host of ATL shyt blew without pushes.

It was certainly one of the last rappity rap songs to do it though. I remember when we were just playing the snippet over and over waiting for the full version. The reaction to the snippet was insane, and I remember a few months later the full thing dropped and the internet went crazy.

Little known fact, Exhibit A first appeared on a Guitar Center CD compilation that featured music played by Guitar Center employees

Remember that Christmas when Act II was supposed to drop? I remember going to my grandma's house for the holiday, thinking when I got back home I'd hop online and download that shyt. Got home late, ran to the computer...didn't see it. To make matters worse him and Just were saying "it's coming, we just waiting on a Nas verse"
:mjlol:

I'm surprised nobody called them out on that at the time. Like the only reason you didn't drop was because of a guest verse...nah fam, stop lying lmao.

Hot Nikka by Bobby Shmurder. Hot 97 wasnt even playing that song during the spring /summer because dude wasnt signed yet it was the hottest song in the streets of NYC. Hot 97 would play the cringeworthy French Montana version because no label was associated with the official song yet.
