The business of music ain't no joke today.

Most of these dudes can't even rap. That's the first thing. Secondly, dudes like Q who can actually rap, have to be cool with not really seeing mad bread for a minute while they build fanbases basically on their own for years, and stay mad focus on JUST music. That's not easy when you have a name out there, but not the spoils to show for it. So dudes lose interest and motivation.

It's not like back in the day, where you could hop to a label with no buzz and get an advance with just your talent. Today, the labels won't even see you unless your following is crazy, and then even after that, they want all your publishing and rights. This is literally the hardest era ever in the history of the business to make real money and keep ownership of all of your paperwork.

Don Q could 100% benefit from a singular outside producer. He can really rap but a lot of his production doesn’t make him stand out at all, it makes him sound like a castoff late 2000s mixtape rapper.

thats how I felt....I was like damn the curse of NYC strikes again..... :damn:

but man if 1 of the OGs came in and scooped him up......

what a shame.

Yep. I know he dropped way before 38 Spesh and Trust were really on the radar, but a crew like that could really help him out right now.

He can rap but doesn't have standout appealing quality to old heads or youngins.

you don't think somebody spitting like that could be molded :dame:

No it's difficult to generate interest in NYC street rap outside of NYC.

We aren't talking about talent right? Don Q is talented. But he's talking that gangster shyt. At this moment in time way more wild youngins would readily identify with A Boogie more. The drill scene uptown has all sorts of weird relationship drama these dudes grew up on A Boogie. The little dudes shooting wildly across the street at each other look more like A Boogie. So it's hard to sell that style.

I'm an oldhead I am fine with just listening to a random Lox mixtape. I don't have a specific reason to keep up with Don Q as an artist. I also have an issue with him being outrapped by Tory Lanez.

He could get with Jim Jones that is someone he could really learn from. It still wouldn't put him in the mainstream but everything he does will be more memorable.
