the funny thing about this is, its been said that Onyx was something that was manufactured by (I could be mixing up the person) but I believe it was Irv Gotti to take advantage of the hardcore style that was building at the time. Before the mastermind got involved, they were supposedly on some completely non threatening shyt. Can anyone else confirm this story?

Doug E Fresh brought that up in 93 on his song "aight" around the same time Onyx was hot.....@ 2:39 he goes in....using Onyxs chorus, a fake fredro and the fact that everyone knew they were dancers prior to being hardcore

this doesnt really mean anything though, look at wu-tang for instance, before they released their first lp rza had prince rakeen - oh we love you rakeem, and gza had his words from a genius album,.. both of which the style they used was pretty much forced upon them from their record labels at the time and look how they turned out .. and i dont think anyone can question how "real" wu tang is.. specially in their earlier years :win:

Yeah I think it was Jam Master Jay that was listening to the demo. I think they said Sticky wasn't even in the group. The last member of the group wasn't in the studio for one of the songs so Sticky dropped a verse. They said the song sounded nothing like the rest of the demo tracks. It had a hardcore vibe. So JMJ told them that needs to be the direction they go in.
