The original discussion was based on the 2016 Warriors v. 1987 Lakers, when Kareem was 39-years-old.

By that time, Cap was well out of his prime and a shell of his former self, and folks asked who was going to guard him in that hypothetical series, and one poster (@Consumed) said Draymond and Bogut can limit him, with the help of team-defense. Draymond has locked up Embiid, Boogie, and AD, by himself, so it's completely reasonable to think he could guard a 39yo Cap; you had players like Blair Rasmussen who had success defending him during that season, and he's not even half the defender that Dray is.

And adding to that, even if the discussion was on a Prime Cap, the Warriors would still be able to defend him, given that the rules today would allow them to shadow him with an extra defender and make him kick out the ball, as opposed to during his time when he'd simply go 1v1 without having to deal with any loitering help defenders.
