where is jay electronica? when did he sign with the roc? how many songs has he dropped
since signing?
Jay Elec is in Austria cuckolding the Illuminati

Even if he was home doe, nikkas aint tryna hear that Exhibit shyt. They want that, "SHE GOT A BIG BOOTY, SO I CALL HER BIG BOOTY"

Even when the Roc was popping, only Jay and Ye really took off. Beanie Sigel would be happy to go gold in his prime.... in his prime. Was that Jay's fault too :comeon:

Papoose had the biggest buzz out of all of em, how was it pretend hype?

I'm def not pretending he didnt have that hype -- but it was just the kind of "come on NYC you can do it!" hype that realistic people could SEE THRU. -- he didn't make good music (Canibus syndrome). Punchline rap was corny to me (& everybody else outside of NY), & the "Mixtape Rappers" as a genre had already worn thru the buzz from 50 Cent's success.

+Plus, his name was laughable, didnt have a personality, Kay Slay was picking some terrible/cheap production.
he signed to BUSTA RHYMES. LOL...
what else? Appreciated the Law Library, but even that wasnt particularly "good," just dope that he was doing that. his only real good song ever was 'Alphabetical Slaughter' or whatever from the mid-nineties when he was running with KoolGRap -- that shyt was amazing! but that was like 7 years before he caught his "buzz" -- he even re-made it with a wacker beat during the buzz but it just helped illustrate that he didn't really have much else. NY fans were just thirsty & feeling themselves.
Good for them tricking Jive out of the 1.5 milli, but ultimately that really just drove the nail in the coffin for the game trusting NY hype.

"come on NYC you can do it!" hype
Thats the perfect way to describe it lmao.

It used to irk me that NYC couldn't get it together but at the end of the day a couple of things ring true.

- Theres still quality music coming out of NYC- I just downloaded a new Camp Lo mixtape and its heat. Charles Hamilton is still rapping... speaking of which....
- The mainstream fan doesn't want quality, they want 2 Chainz... so that's what will get push
- Lot of NYC fans are idiots... case in point the Fab TINC series... these were some of the same dudes slamming C4 for being just as corny

You have to understand though its difficult to go from being the epicenter and the creators of the artform to being the audience of its marginalization + exploitation. But if we put our hopes in dudes like Papoose and Uncle Murda, we'd only be adding to the problem. These guys are no better than the wacker rappers in the mainstream

Thought he was next with his last single that Mariah ruined with that horrible remix, which was a paradox.

:laff: NY nikkas always hype sumbody as the future then wen they don't pan out its "when wuz this?we never called Corey Gunz or Vado the future of hiphop"....don't be ashamed now nikka:mjpls:

I gave Vado a fair listen,Uncle Murda got the :childplease: first 2 bars.

But no one ever did...Vado and Cam fans maybe

I don't recall Corey Gunz ever dropping anything that made people say this.

With me being fron New York my opinion matters more than anyone else who is not from New York. And with that said, Uncle Murda was NEVER supposed to be New Yorks next best thing.

Jay and Ye was the only ones that took off outside of rap. The Roc was MMG from 99-02. I was in high school around these times. Everybody was on that Roc wave. Just right before Dipset and G-unit became the most popping crews in the game.

Uncle Mura had little hype, but he was never expected to be the big NY rapper. He was in the same boat as Tru Life.

Now papoose was supposed to be the one.

lyrically grafh is nicer than fab, papoose and Banks put together....i was really suprised that dude never blew up

But no one ever did...Vado and Cam fans maybe

I don't recall Corey Gunz ever dropping anything that made people say this.
Grafpfh and Corey have the same problem... crazy raw talent w/no direction/ability to write songs. They are the kind of dudes who will just write 400 bars over 20 different beats, slap it together and call it a mixtape. Theyre like little kids hopped up on sugar.

I never heard shyt worth a damn from Grafh (although he did put Tehmeena Afzal in a video :noah:  ) but Cory did some work with Ryan Leslie that was pretty cool. But it was 1 song thrown in on a really bad mixtape.

Jay and Ye was the only ones that took off outside of rap. The Roc was MMG from 99-02. I was in high school around these times. Everybody was on that Roc wave. Just right before Dipset and G-unit became the most popping crews in the game.
Everyone was on that Roc wave, sure, but again Jay and Ye were the only nikkas actually selling. Same with the Dips. Everyone remembers that Un Kasa Hot 97 performance, but dude never even got a deal, let alone moved any units. As far as crossing over/getting pull, unfortunately, thats what counts
