:mjlol: I never bought in to him no matter how much folks tried to cyse his album from 2012. Dude only started getting buzz when he admitted he was into men.

:scust: I ain't trying to listen to a dude sing about men.

@stomachlines @CrimsonTider @jadillac Y'all fukk with Frank Ocean?

Novacane was really dope, but that's about as far as I go.

Really, it's weird. Because most ppl assume Luther Vandross, Freddie JAckson and a few others were gay, but they never admitted it, nor did they ever sing about "men" lyrically.....so nobody cared and still jammed their music. Frank prob shoulda just went about it that way.

He was. but then he voluntarily went ghost. "artists" don't care about 'next', albums sales, etc etc. Their craft is a gift they choose to share. Thats how they see it.

Andre 3,000 and Dave Chapelle are perfect examples of that now a days.
Yea, but those are people who fans still talk about and want more from....like Adele is on hiatus right now but people are still waiting for her. I have not had any conversation or read any article or seen any tweet that went "hey, we really need another frank ocean album again"....dude's album was garbage and he was promptly forgotten

Based on Nostalgia, which had some of the best RnB in a decade, yes it was fair to say he had next.

But Chanel Orange sucked :yeshrug: It is what it is.

Some of y'all shytting on him now were probably dikkriding that weedplate when it came out, trying to hop on the bandwagon late.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is who is Frank's audience at this point? His music technically isnt aimed at females and every nikka I know hit the :whoa: on him and his music after he came out the closet.

Add that to the fact that he hasn't put out music in 3 years(which is forever in the music industry, especially for a new artist) and you're left with zero buzz.

So selling 600k and winning a grammy with your only album is a flopped career now? :why:

Coli at it's worst.

The Grammys made up a category for him that year AFTER he came out...,that's akin to michael sam winning the Arthur Ashe courage award, shyt was a publicity play. Be smarter than that breh

Now a Grammy (for an entirely new category) means something....but when Macklemore and eminem or any other "culture vulture" wins a Grammy...the Grammys don't mean shyt to black music :sas2:

No, they made a new category to reflect the change in "R&B" in that popular black singers of this era aren't exactly making music that fits into the R&B category, so you had a whole host of the most popular music acts out there frozen out of the show as the Best R&B award is still aimed at the traditional sounds of the genre.

The category wasn't created for Frank Ocean, it was actually created because people were upset that Chris Brown won Best R&B in 2012 off the strength of popularity despite his album not actually being R&B. Why do you think Breezy's gets nominated in this category now and not Best R&B?

What is this new Grammey category that y'all are talking about?

I think coming out publicly, while praised by cac media and people being PC, fukked him up a little bit. People kind of shied away from hearing dude sing about other men.

Like someone else said, at least with Luther Vandross we could pretend he wasn't singing about men. Regardless of how PC this society gets publicly, privately a lot of people just aren't comfortable with the idea of hearing a dude sing sweet nothings about another dude. We like to insert ourselves into the music, be it as the man or the woman in the equation, and once that's no longer doable the music becomes harder to relate to.

All that said, Nostalgia/Ultra is still one of my favorite albums of the 2010s and I'm not even an RnB fan. Hopefully his next project can be even 80% as good as N/U was.

Coli might be the most commercial dikkriding nikkas on the internets. Anything that's pop gets dikkridden and anything that's not hot played by Flex is wack, ol Barbie/BeyonceHive ass nikkas. Frank Ocean dropped a classic, he's more a d'angelo than a Ne-yo like these other nikkas. Abel was my main man but he only had a spark when he started and a few select songs since then. Dudes an weaker version of JT now when he was looking like the new kells or new and improved Dream just a few years ago, tryna compete with Sam Smith and Eddy Sheridan now. Miguel is the only dude I would rank above Frank at this point (and obviously D'Angelo as of today). Lol @ CB might as well mention Omi and Nicky Minaj while you're at it.
