Yeah, once I hit college I didn't really care what I wore to class (to a certain extent :usure:)

I'd just save all my fly shyt for parties/the club

my parents were too broke to keep me looking fresh. if i had a full week worth of new shyt, i was living above my means.

:manny: my kids aren't going to be dressed in expensive clothes, either. we're teaching principles over here.

You are surely a man of elevated consciousness, and have caused me to reconsider the emphasis I place on material things.

Nope, dressed regular nice the first week or two but didn't bust out the new 'fits until 2 weeks in when everyone else ran out of new clothes. Then you shined alone. :smugdraper:

I don't know about that. Seems like it could backfire, because it looks like you had to wait a few weeks to get your clothes off layaway :youngsabo:

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Oh yeah! For sure. Loved the first day of school cuz I was always fitted out. My parents, being first generation immigrants; you know we ain’t got a lot of money.

Since I didn’t have to get dropped off afterschool for evening daycare, mom would save enough money throughout the summer and ensure that we would have loot for back to school shopping.

Recall back in 4rst grade, I had a new pair of XJ-900 Cement IV’s (they were the knockoffs, but still fiyah! Tho prolly didn’t feel like it ) a new flea market Nike Air t-shirt and Bart Simpson FLIGHT hat with the Jordan logo (copyright infringement didn’t frighten the swap meat vendors).

First day of school was usually the Wednesday after Labor Day… so for the rest of the week, I WORE THAT SAME EXACT OUTFIT!

No lie.

Had cats feeling like it was groundhog week. Umph!

*reminisces*

Ahh man. Momma. Even as impoverished as we were in the ‘jects… she worked so hard to keep me and the sister happy.

:lolbron: Normally it might. We were doing better financially than a lot of kids in school who were only fresh on the 1st and 15th. :skip: Delayed gratification (and hard work) is how my fam moved up to begin with. :obama:

The worst is having arguably the best outfit (that hustling auntie/uncle brought back clothes from NY) and discovering someone else had has. This happened to me once, I swear they tried to threaten me into taking it off (the shirt/jacket part) at my locker. :what:

This whole fad seems stupid and childish.. but if you analyze it, its a fundamental in life. First impressions are lasting and most important.
