They can do this because they're not financially tied into the sports or celebrities. Same with Deadspin.
Fox, NBC, CBS, ESPN (& by association to ESPN, ABC) all air games and eat off the NFL advertising, the most profitable in the business. The major media networks will just fall inline with what the NFL hands down as their spin for situations and will never question it for the greater good of profit.
I'm glad TMZ/Deadspin are pulling the curtain back in this era of more information.

This guy on ESPN Chicago saying people trying to make this a racial issue. White or black, you hit a woman with the Mike Tyson star punch and she gets left slumped over, hell to pay is coming.
TMZ is a scum news organization. They not releasing this information to make the world better, they only doing this for profit and views. They had the 2nd tape for a while and waited until the 1st week of the season to release it. Also, they paid for news, not research and interview people for it. Nobody is perfect and we all have skeletons in our closet that we don't want to world to know. TMZ is in the business to profit off of people skeletons, mistakes and misfortunes. The end results of the Ray Rice situation and Donald Sterling were correct and appropriate but TMZ is not a moral compass or savior. They are a shady news organization that benefts off of drama and bad deeds from celebrities and now athletes.

I actually don't respect this part of the web (culture) and/or technology. Like with sterling, there are other public accounts of how much of a scumbag he was, but for a private conversation to be sold and released and used as the fuel to spark outrage, that's stupid. where was that noise after the lawsuits over his slumlord ways? There is a lot of stuff that happens in private that should not become public/net fodder, you think it's funny cuz you're not a celebrity, but the same thing is happening to the average person and is becoming both damaging (this shyt stays on the net forever) and is desensitizing people to serious issues - such as that whole jadapose thing on twitter and Instagram. It's bytch made to be running around leaking convos, pics, videos of private events IMO (and I'm not really talking about rice since it happened in a public elevator)
