It’s simply a matter of there being more people than there are homes to house them in. The only fix would be to immediately facilitate the building of new homes all over the country, but because of shortages and delays with building supplies, it’s not possible.

Calling landlords greedy never made actual sense to me (full disclosure, I’m a landlord), it just comes off as sour grapes. People have a sense of entitlement and think they should be able to afford X amount of square footage in Y location for Z amount of money. When market conditions cause adjustments to that formula, and there’s someone willing to pay more for the home you THINK you are entitled to, why shouldn’t a landlord be allowed to rent it to the person willing to pay more? It’s not like landlords are sitting on these homes and demanding inflated rent, causing them to stay vacant. They’re still getting them rented ASAP to someone that’s willing to pay more for them than the “this is greed” crowd. I’m sure there’s a place you can afford to live in, it just might not be what you feel you “deserve” to live in, but blame that on the market conditions. The landlords are just the ones taking advantage of such. It’s not like when the script is flipped anyone ever bytches about their rent being too low.

But you have no idea how society itself is on the verge of imploding and having those would-be tenants commit crimes just for a basic place to live. Or, even have hundreds of tenants at once, show up at your place demanding change by lethal force :demonic: . Remember, a place to live is not a luxury, its a necessity in society. It should be as low as possible and a way to people to SAVE and become homeowners someday where they truly desire. Jacking up rents just encourages people to be discouraged and engage in social deviant behavior for basic NEEDS. That's 3rd world Banana Republic shyt.

This is the market. People have the money. They will rent that place out within 48 hours.

Rent should be under 15% of a person's monthly income. If they have excess money, it should be used for savings, investing, or mild consuming. No landlord should feel entitled to a person's income.

Then you could say that about any person on the planet that sells a product or service. Supply and demand dictate the cost of a good or service. 99% of people that start a business do so to generate revenue and maximize profits. In this ONE instance, people want to complain that the Seller of that good/service should voluntarily choose to ignore the whole purpose of starting that business in the first place. But they’re only clamoring for such because it benefits them.

When Jordan drops some limited retros, I never hear “they should cost the same as the regular J’s that I can typically afford” or “Jordan brand shouldn’t be allowed to charge that much for sneakers, I still need shoes to wear”.

Something’s gotta give

When is the middle class gonna do something about it?

How can everything go up but the median US income be stagnant and sometimes even less than previous years?

Landlords are just leeches. They don't care about American society as a whole. They think about infinite income and everlasting splurging sprees.

J's and HAVING A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD isn't comparable at all. :mjtf:

People can live without J's. People cannot live without a roof over their heads, especially when a mortgage for a house is in short supply.

I don’t think it’s so much “I don’t have ANYWHERE to live” as much as it’s “I can’t live in a spacious, new home in an in-demand area close to my job without roommates for the amount I’m typically used to spending on rent.”

If your argument is that people literally don’t have anywhere to live, then blame the government for not creating more low-cost government housing. Property developers aren’t just going to build low-cost housing in metropolitan areas on their own and rent cap them- they’re running a business, not a charity.

People already having to do 1-2 hour commutes, ONE WAY, from home to work every day. Government needs to make more quality housing for an affordable price because it a SOCIETAL NEED. Like Public Transportation. It wasn't made to be profitable for a few greedy hands.

Totally agree with you on that.

So why blame the Landlords for something that, in your own admission, is the fault of the government? Are they supposed to be held to some higher standard and step in with a cape on against their own self interest solely because the government’s fukk ups?
