Reorganizing Higher Learning

Higher Learning is oversaturated with political threads instead of interesting general information. There are five or so posters who flood threads with their biased opinions and oversaturate the entire forum with political articles that support their views. I believe many posters avoid Higher Learning altogether for this reason (including me).

Maybe we could make a Politics subforum to separate political discussions away from broader Higher Learning topics like Physics, Psychology, Biology, Economics, Computer Science, Astronomy, etc.?

Two suggestions:

1. Put the posters who flood the forum on ignore. You can always click "Show Ignored Content" at the bottom of the screen to see their threads when you are in the mood.

2. Use the Thread Tools feature to put individual threads on ignore. (Thread Tools is located above post #1 next to the stars.)

I use the Ignore feature for TLR, I currently have over 15 users on ignore.. The problem is the users I'm talking about make Higher Learning less desirable to participate in. They turn me off, and I'm pretty sure they turn off other users as well.

So even if I put them on Ignore, the forum as a whole will still be wack, because other members of this site don't really fuxwit it. I'm 99% sure that if politics were put in a subsection, Higher Learning would be one of the most vibrant forums here. Instead you basically see the same people in it.

Yes, I agree with you. I don't follow politics and have seriously thought about abandoning Higher Learning for the next year until the election is over. I spend more of my time in The Root these days. If there was a limit of three threads per day in Higher Learning then people would post quality instead of quantity.

The problem with The Coli is many posters refuse to leave their main forum, especially those that post in TLR. So no matter what the staff does, I don't see very many regulars in Higher Learning.

Yes, I agree with you. I don't follow politics and have seriously thought about abandoning Higher Learning for the next year until the election is over. Personally, I barely post in HL right now, but I could see it being my main Forum. As of right now, I'm turned off by the way it is.

There's all kinds of ill topics to be discussed but instead its just politics, politics, politics. And not in a way that spurs learning either. It feels like unproductive arguing.

HL brehs don't like rules or being ruled and the policies of the Coli is to not have too many sub-forums so this won't happen sorry.
On top of that, you need to take into account that the '16 US Elections are coming and that's the reason why they are even more political threads currently. I often try to stick threads that are interesting or breaking news to have them noticed but the regular threads will always be about politics. If you have any idea, you can PM me or the other mods so we can discuss about it. In the mean time, feel free to make threads about interesting matters to counter-balance the overall "politicsness" of the forum but keep in mind that the Elections will necessarily make them less visible.

but seriously i'd suggest a main forum-
"us presidential elections 2016"
expires dec 31, 2016
then move it between bushes + rafters
every thread on that topic from every area of the board goes there

TLR has the same threads about the same troll bait topics. And the same types of users are making the same kinds of threads. That applies to The Booth and The Coliseum too.

The only sections that don't really have that problem are The Film Room, TSC, and the Arcadium has gotten a little better when it comes to that problem.

Word? So basically the troll threads get the most views and replies due to arguments and then get featured.
Maybe we need a Mod to curate or some shyt.

Well I dunno breh, but at this moment HL is lookin kinda . I really wish it was better, I would probably ditch TLR for HL.
