This is the mental logjam that political correctness and vote pandering causes. If the tenets of Islam say it's fine to wed a pre-pubescent girl, then as a Muslim, own that sh1t. You have no problem being identified by the religion, but you wanna be mad when parts of your religion that are now barbaric when shown in contemporary context are highlighted?
And yes, the same smoke applies to Christianity, Judaism, and any other religion that society is gradually passing by.
She wasn't wrong in her original statement, but now you lose the vote of the hypocrites and the disingenuous, and since most people fall into those categories, you've now put a political bullet into your own foot. Now you have to attempt to become a leader through hypocrisy and disingenuous thoughts your damn self with either the juelzing or playing your Uno reverse card. Sure she could have stood on her claims, given proof of why she said what she said (properly illustrated in the video posted by @Dafunkdoc_Unlimited above), but unfortunately being a self respecting adult doesn't feed mouths in her lane of work.
Politics is a sh1tty game. When you mix it with something as unprovable and intangible as "faith," now it just becomes a refuge for sewer water and it's accompanying filth.
I hope both wings enjoy their dog and pony show with their cartoon characters pantomiming as leaders at center stage.

it is worth noting that OZ not only managed to pass an academically challenging med school, but also got into competitive surgical residency, so he at least has more brains than your average celebrity. He's like a more famous Ben Carson. Its 50/50 on whether that makes Oz a good politician tho
