All shade aside I thought the Lakers plan was to wait and see if Doc actually quit the clippers (which he could possibly do if he knew he could possibly land on the Lakers) and then swoop in with an offer that would let him stay coaching in LA.

Yeah, it wouldn't be ideal for Doc career wise but its the only Hail Mary I could see that justified them waiting this long to get a Head coach. They didn't have a Head coach during FA which in hindsight likely hurt them. Byron Scott doesn't suck completely but was he really what they were waiting for?......

So you think Lakers would have gotten Bron or Melo if they had a head coach in place??

Idk if they would of got them but how do you talk to a FA about winning championships and you don't have a head coach for the team? How do you convince a player he should play for your team and he won't even know who his coach is? They went into those meeting handicapped by their lack of a HC.

If the plan was to maybe get Bron and Melo and then okie dope Scott in because that's who they wanted but they maybe thought he would hurt them during FA that was a horrible plan. Like I said I thought this delay was to at least attempt a hail Mary on a coach hiring, because that would in my eyes justify the delay.

They were going after Bron and Melo so they both knew which coaches were available to the Lakers. So in that instance not having a coach in place didn't hurt them in getting Bron or Melo. The whole "not having coach" is just overblown media hype that gets associated with the Lakers on a regular basis.

It definitely didn't help. Not having a coach has the team in more limbo than it already was (having no players, doubts on Kobe's ability to bounce back, etc). That's why Pau and Farmar left, and why Melo and Bron didn't take them seriously. There's no actions showing a direction.

All of the other candidates were taken! Even coaches weren't trusting or waiting for the Lakers

How do you know that Bron and Melo didn't take them seriously?? It was reported Melo was impressed by the Lakers after their meeting. I doubt Pau and Farmar left because they didn't have a coach. Farmar wasn't a priority to the Lakers so he did what was best for him and his family. The Lakers were not going to overspend for a often injured backup journeyman. Pau felt the Bulls were in better position to compete for a ship.

Notice how everyone is still saying he was offered the job but none day he accepted it yet.
Everybody knew it was coming.

I personally wanted Billy Donovan
You really think Billy would have left his comfortable job at FL for that mess, huh?

The last/worst situation you want as a new coach is a superstar in decline with nothing else to prove. Triple that if said superstar is one Kobe Bryant.

Thing with Kobe is he's got nothing else to prove but he will be out there like he does and ain't gonna take shyt from no new to the NBA coach. Only people he'd respect are Phil or Doc at this point.
