If they sign Kawhi right off the bat then there is no way they can sign Aldridge or any other "big name" free agent...his cap hit would be to high for them to have the money to work with...
Kawhi would have to sign his contract last out of everybody since he is a RFA and the Spurs can go over the cap to sign him

Wish Jimmy would do the same![]()
Yes they can.

Kawhi will play out the last year of his rookie deal next season before his extension kicks in for 16/17.
They got the money to sign LMA right now. Timmy can resign, Manu for the low low. Danny Green might be gone though.
Cap is 67 million next year, Luxury tax kicks in after you go over 81.6 million.

I think the Spurs would be wise to let Corey Joseph walk and look into getting a penetrating and creating PG. Parker's on his last legs and lets face it, Patty is looking to shoot and score first.
Parker not on his last legs, dude was fukking hurt that's why he was playing bad, the playoffs before he was lighting it up, pretty much the entire 14-15 season he had some injury. He just needs to be healthy.

The Spurs are arguably the most fascinating NBA team of this summer. Two-thirds of their players are set to be free agents – including stars Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard – while they also are chasing the signature of All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge.
In this busy juggling act, the Spurs won’t be able to use a valuable contract loophole to retain Leonard — a restricted free agent who is certain to get a max contract of whatever length he chooses — because they need to create as much cap space as possible.
It’s called the Maximum Qualifying Offer. The Bulls became the first team to employ it Monday when they offered it to restricted free agent Jimmy Butler. It ensures a restricted free agent must receive at least a three-year offer sheet from another team, as opposed to getting a two-year offer sheet with a player option for the third season. A shorter deal would be appealing to a player such as Leonard, a rising star who could cash in as the cap soars over the next few seasons.
But unlike the Bulls, who are over the salary cap and don’t have to worry about cap holds – the money that stays on the salary cap for a team’s free agents – the Spurs are trying to carve out the space to land Aldridge.
Under the terms of a regular qualifying offer, Leonard will have a cap hold of $7.2 million. But if Leonard received a Maximum Qualifying Offer from San Antonio, his cap hold would be more than double that $7.2 million figure, preventing the Spurs from realistically pursuing Aldridge.
Yes, the Spurs have plenty of options, and they tend to get their way, so Leonard likely just will sign up for a full five-year max contract. But they’ll be without one wrinkle that, if Leonard chooses to go off script, could throw a monkey wrench in their plans.
