Josh Smith may be athletic, a great finisher, a shot blocker and good defender but he's also very low IQ on offense, chucks too many long jumpers when he isn't a shooter, and just leaves you shaking your head at some of his decisions despite his talents
Pau may not be athletic but he is much more highly skilled than J-Smoove, much better shooter from 15 feet, much higher IQ on the offensive end.
I don't get how Pau doesn't fit in D'Antoni's offense, I think he's going to be a big beneficiary of it because he is versatile and when Howard is resting, Pau is playing C
I think Lakers desperately a 3pt shooter off the bench and who can also fill in at the 3. And Gasol is the only trade-able commodity.
Nobody wants Ron Artest.

...lakers should've got it done then IMO..pau is not a fukking stretch 4, or a power forward at all at this point and in today's NBA...he's a (likely top 10) center playing out of position who when paired with another center (bynum last year and dwight this year) makes for a tragically slow footed front court defensively that has been and will continue to hurt the lakers dearly...Josh is having a bad season right now and pau is prolly in a vaccum still the better player...but I've been wanting this trade for a while...he isn't a "stretch 4" either, but a far better fit what the lakers need defensively...and now that D'Antoni is the coach, prolly offensively too...ATL would be better with Pau too, but it wouldn't make them contenders or anything and understand if they financial considerations over getting better in the short term
