Maybe, but think about this, you can be anything, or anyone in the meta verse with no limitations, and the version of yourself that you prefer is a rapist? And it sounds like they had a whole "rape" plan, with the group, and "drink", I have to admit, I'm confused as to wtf this whole thing is? Like, as soon as you aren't having fun, can't you turn it off?
Mods just need to ban them.

If I'm brandishing a virtual gun at your head in vr, am I threatening you? If I make a punching motion at your character, is that assault? If I'm shooting your character, have you been "murdered in the metaverse"?
As far as I know, it's not anything different than vr games where you have a headset and controllers in your hands. Like you said, you can pull off your headset and boom, game is over. How you get pressured to turn around or do anything in a game? Claiming that you got raped on the game sounds crazy asf and ridiculous compared to the horror rape in real life is.

That's one way to look at it but I would say in those games the purpose is to kill the opponent as opposed to the metaverse.
Edit: Also keep in mind in those games you can be punished for grief/harassment.
