From what I've seen....nope. Now take in mind, I still haven't played my copy as yet so I don't know if you acquire skills/items that will help you to shove em' off like your'e accustomed of doing in the older games with quick button mashing and a strong part of me believes that there isn't, since they made the knife an item that can leave your hand (Get caught in a zombie) and ultimately be destroyed after use.
This further has me to believe that the game is subtly punishing you for just bucking at Zombies thinking that you can just button mash to limit their bites if you get caught.

older me trying to play the way we did back in the day, since now it looks like this game wants me to to start choosing my battles as opposed to just clearing rooms and checking for secrets at my leisure.

You have to press X(PS4)/A(XB1) right when they lunge at you and they'll sidestep them.
I've seen this stated but I've never even seen a video of it successfully working.

It works for me but I don't think it's designed to work every time, it seems like they force you to play smarter which means avoidance.
