During the analysis, Digital Foundry found that the PS4 version of Resident Evil Revelations 2 dropped to as low as 27 FPS, compared to just 42 FPS on the Xbox One. Furthermore, out of 17,000 total frames studied for this faceoff, the PS4 dropped 3,112 (18.3%) of all total frames. The Xbox One, however, just dropped 566 (3.3%). Meanwhile, the PC version seems to have no technical issues of the sort, despite the simple visuals and higher-than-1080p options.
Unfortunately, because we are not the developers ourselves, we cannot determine what part of Resident Evil Revelations 2’s development is more at fault, here; the PS4’s API or Capcom’s engine. Either way, it’s evident that something is drastically wrong with the ability to make the MT Framework engine Capcom uses to develop their latest Resident Evil games on the PS4. Resident Evil HD Remaster encountered slight frame drops on the PS4, although usually only when cutting between camera angles.
