EXCLUSIVE: Constantin’s ‘Resident Evil’ franchise with ‘Barbarian’ and ‘Weapon’ filmmaker Zach Cregger directing, will stay at Sony.
Warners was kicking the tires of this latest Cregger reboot, but Sony isn’t letting this $1.2 billion grossing franchise go.
A theatrical release date of Sept. 18, 2026 has been set, which tells you how excited the studios are to get this latest rendition up on the screen.
Cregger’s screenplay, which was co-written with Shay Hatten, is under wraps, but apparently harkens back to the original Capcom game’s horror roots.

As far as movies go, it was really just the Jovovich run which was cartoonishly bad. Theres actually a documentary that's supposed to becoming out about the George A Remero version that never came to fruition.
I'd welcome the a reboot with the right team behind it. I still want to see a proper version of the OG game.
Zach Cregger says his Resident Evil movie will be completely different from the previous Resident Evil films:"My movie will be built in the spirit of those games and follows one central protagonist from point A to point B"
