You just compared apples to a cheesesteak. People clearly understand what they are paying for on the items listed. Restaurants are adding charges people are unaware. I've seen 18% gratuity on bills for only two people or other surcharges added on bills.

I feel that if I'm spending $7.50 on a latte, I wouldn't really care.

It makes sense that the price is high by the way. The internet loves crying about how people in the service industry aren't paid enough but then want to pay peanuts for said service.
