Nah, if you get arrested, there's literally NO reason to talk to cops without getting legal counsel first. I mean there's literally no advantage. Even if you say something you think is harmless, cops could easily choose to interpret it in a way that makes you look guilty of something. It's very easy to accidentally incriminate yourself (even if you're innocent) and very unlikely that cops will decide you're not guilty based off anything you say. If they're arresting you, they already think you're guilty. Peep this -

Dude is a law professor/former defense attorney, there's reason to think dude knows what he's talking about.

that's not part of the scenario Reta Reign posted about though

According to this guy it's a federal offense to be in possession of a Lobster :ehh:

they use those seemingly meaningless questions to see if they can get other shyt out of you
I have been in similar situations like that MR posted above and basically the cops were just trying to find out if we were the people they were looking for soon as they realized they had the wrong people they bounced
I think it is best to establish a proper community relationship with the police rather than that of an occupying force
they have a job to do, a job which should be on your behalf, you don't want some psycho killer running loose in your hood and the assumption is that neither do they

See, I don't know if I agree with dude's tactics 100%. Just to give an example. About 7 Years ago I'm walking on Franklin ave near union st. I'm wearing a black hoodie, a fitted. . . Typical ghetto wear. Some cops (2 white boys) drive up beside me and asked me straight up, did I shoot anyone in the last few hours. Of course, I tell them no. They ask me if I would mind lifting up me hoodie to reveal my waistline. I comply. He tells me that he doesn't mean to bother me, but a woman was shot no too long ago near St. Johns and the perp was wearing a black hoodie. I tell him that I'm sure he's just doing his job, but it was not me. He says if it were your mom who was shot, I'm sure you'd want us out there working hard to find out who did it too. I agreed. He told me to have a good evening and drove away. I wasn't scared through the ordeal.

Now, say I went the route suggested in the video. I don't think it would have worked out that well for me. Don't make a tense situation needlessly MORE tense. My defense in those situations is my ability to articulate well. To even empathize. In my mind, I think to myself if I were a cop trying to find the dude that shot this woman how would I go about it? What would convince that someone is NOT the perp? Then I use that mentality as my defense. Now, ofcourse those cops could have been lying and were just trying to catch a black man walking around with a gun, but I have no way of knowing that.
I thought about that, escalating the situation but they could use ANYTHING you say against you and you could potentially be screwed, fukk it I'm not riskin it. I'ma stay quiet

I'd say the same thing is true if you're a suspect. I'd say, unless you're allowed to testify/talk with condition of immunity, there's no reason to talk to cops. It may be cynical, but logically it's much more likely that something will go wrong talking to a cop than it is that they'll decide you're innocent.

Innocent people accidentally incriminate themselves all the time. Peep the video I posted...

basically
if a cop is on some racist shyt looking for a black kid to harass or beat up, acting the way that guy suggest is not going to stop that
besides with stop and frisk still on the books in NY, they don't even need an excuse to stop someone

breh, I'm not saying take the cops to grab a dough-nut and draw them sketches
but if they are driving through your hood looking for someone and are just trying to identify you, I don't see the issue:yeshrug:

I am a suspect to them
but I look at myself as a respectable citizen, who has every right to be doing whatever they find me doing when they come up to me, so it's a conversation just like any stranger on the street but even easier because I have some idea of their rules of engagement.
every situation is different though
there are certain times when I know it is best to keep quiet around the police, but the one he described does not seem that difficult to navigate to me.

and that is another thing
when the police roll up on that adrenalin, they clearly have a serious concern
I just don't think that is the time to negotiate with coyness
you are normally out-gunned and out-manned, so if indeed their intention is to rule you out with some simple questions and move on with their lives, shyt let them rule you out and move on

now compare that to a situation where detectives show up to your house and want you to come to the station to talk to them
shyt..then they can wait for my lawyer to meet me there
the average beat cop on the street is not that slick nor has time to try and trip you up and if he does your lawyer will tear that up.

i hope you're white for your sake.

when multiple policemen, and lawyers tell you exactly how to handle yourself. and you still got something to say back. you're an idiot. sure i get where you're coming from. but at some point you have to SHUT UP and stop thinking you're smarter then the PROS. they DO THIS. you dont. you just think you're intelligent. you think its all about "doing the right thing". its not. so understand that point. and do what they just told you. or keep doing it your way and lets both pray you never get railroaded for it. but stop replying in here trying to convince others that your way is a better way. it aint.

Police enforcement is a business first and foremost...and like all businesses they need to make money. Making money is secondary to keeping the community safe.
tmonster doesnt understand this. he's naive .

and like i said i understand why a decent human being would be torn when the popo come asking questions. especially if they seem "non threatening" . but this officer and lawyer just told you what COULD happen. now if you CHOOSE to go on ahead and talk anyway. you cant say "nobody told me i should not have said anything."
you've been warned
