Not that I’m a defender of his but he’s done a lot more than the folks who’ve criticized him. He’s lived a life that none of these Coli militants could even dream of having. The one time I met him in Montgomery, I made sure to say ‘thank you’ cause I’m sure these goofies didn’t even tho they wouldn’t put toe to line like he and others did.

Jesse Jackson is far from perfect but he is the last of his kind in a lot ways and at one points really was for the uplifting of African Americans in this country on micro and macro level.
Andrew Young went to my uncle's funeral. It's wild some of these dudes did and the dues they paid just to see a generation not appreciate them at all.

Some of the disdain in this thread reminds me of when a segment of Black folks suddenly started attacking John Lewis months before and after his death, saying he didn't do “this and that” or how he was nothing more than “this and that”, among other things.
Jessie Jackson was legit back in the days, of course, as he got older, he kinda just fizzled in terms of being very public and outspoken, but he was real, the man earned his stripes.
Black people have to stop despising and being extra critical towards Civil Rights activists, a lot of them did the heavy lifting, putting their livelihoods and well-being on the line just for us to be where we at now, it may not be perfect but many ancestors and elders of the past who didn't get to live to see the world today would love to be in our shoes, be thankful of what you have today.
Every Black activist/leader doesn't have to be like a split image of Malcolm X to be effective, and I say that because, you know, a lot of us idolize certain Black figures because there's an element of coolness to their personas and downplay others as less important because they don't have an image of coolness, grit, y'know an “edge”, toughness, etc.
Every Black activist, leader, and figure of the past had their own style/methods to complement the movement and educate the Black community, for example W. E. B. Du Bois had his way in fighting and educating Black people that differed from Booker T. Washington's, but regardless, both played crucial roles and made contributions in fighting for the Black community's Civil Rights, etc.
The point is that they're all equally important in their own right, and their accomplishments as well as their contributions should be respected, not downplayed; no one is better than the other.
With that said, hopefully he gets better 🫡
