Illmatic impacted rap enough to shift the dominance of the west coast back to the east.

The East was not dominant after Illmatic. Warren G's Regulate was a bigger deal than anything coming off of the East until Ready To Die. I mean, even when Outkast popped off in 1994, "Player's Ball" and "Southernplayalistic" are G Funk records sonically. Biggie's "Big Poppa" has a West Coast swing to it too.

Lmaooooo it's dark sold 4 million hard knock sold 5. 1 million less. And had x not released a second album all the hype from his first woulda extended. You projecting hard. Clearly a jay z stan

Who is projecting? You said it yourself, Jay sold 5 million, X sold 4. Last time I checked, 5 >>>>> 4. Now you're trying to rationalize the second album as if Jay dropping a second album wouldn't have extended.

And no I'm not a Jay stan.

Jay stole Swizz? LOL. Swizz literally did like 3-5 songs for Jay during that '98-'99 run. A couple of those were bonus songs that sounded nothing like what Swizz did on IDAHIH. You're still dancing around the fact that one of the biggest songs to ever come out of Ruff Ryders is a Jay Z solo while the Swizz joints on Jay's albums really did nothing for Jay.

Right! Yo said "stole Swizz" like Swizz was exclusively doin' beats for X and nobody else... then Jay kidnapped him and forced him to give him beats.

Did Busta Rhymes, LL, Foxy, and Mya also steal him? :mjlol: Of course not...

Wait, hold up...a more pressing question is...do you even understand the premise of the thread topic? Cos going off this post you're S T R U G G L I N G :laff:

he never understands, whenever that topic is brought up.

or maybe he does understand. he also likes to play dumb on certain topics.

:heh:

I guess 'I Get Around' and 'Keep Ya Head Up' didn't happen and Strictly didn't go platinum. He was 'just an actor' until his third album... bet.

strictly didn't go platinum until '95 tho.

i'll say that much.

that's bullchit.

so "money, cash, hoes" did nothing for jay-z??
blackout wasn't a popular posse cut?
jay benefited more from that ruff ryders solo song than the ruff ryders. and he put that song on his album too.

Can yall not read? I also mentioned impact

I read it.

but you've yet to explain how Ludacris & Eminem had more impact than jay-z.

Illmatic impacted rap enough to shift the dominance of the west coast back to the east.

bad boy was the main cause of the shift, with a bit of wutang.

illmatic's impact/influence outside of the east coast was moreso on the underground scenes.

That being said, I know you don't ride with that "nobody gave a fk about Pac, he was just an actor until MATW" spiel... cause ain't nothin' true about that.

This biased ass shyt. So Irv basically credits the songs he was involved with as being the reason for that album being such a smash. Can I Get A was huge and on the charts for a long time but a lot of that was before the album dropped. Money Ain't A Thing was a smash too yet he doesn't mention that one. And he definitely downplayed how huge Hard Knock Life the song was. That was really the crossover song that brought Jay to a different audience. That album had hit after hit so it's crazy to just try and make it like Can I Get A and Money, Cash, Hoes is what propelled it to that level.

And still... I ain't see shyt about "stealing"...

Y'all nikkas be actin' so brand-new to rap and how that shyt works...

so Jay is the first and only nikka to peep a new producer/sound that's hot and then employ that producer to work with him?

Did Nore steal Swizz too? Did Busta? Did Cam'ron? Did the numerous other MFs that got a Swizz beat in '98/'99 'steal' him, or did he get production work because of his talent... like most producers who've done beats for lots of different artists??

*yawn*

yeah, I'll pay attention to you, some regular nobody nicca versus someone who lived it first hand and had full scope of what was going on in public and behind the scenes and whose job it was to study metrics on what was successful for him, his crew and his company

and we all know the nicca irv gonna talk up his sh't BUT he did challenge jigga numerous times to counter what he was saying

yall niccas on this forum really got this dicchead tier ego and can't accept when you're wrong lmao :dead:

"Hard Knock Life" is what elevated Jay Z. "Can I Get A..." was bigger than "Money, Cash" as was "Money Ain't A Thang".

"Jigga My nikka" was a bonus song on Vol. 3. Rightfully so, because it was a Jay solo originally on the RR compilation and was the biggest song on there.
