Encore > MMLP2

Not even bullshytting. Not because it's just outright horrible but because the best songs on that are GREAT and the whole idea of making an album...about not wanting to make an album is at the very least intriguing.

Now if you had taken the bonus disc and replaced the handful of blatant pop cuts and stupid shyt like "a$$hole" MMLP2 could have panned out to be a decent album. No way in hell should a song like groundhog day be left off the main album for stupid shyt like "survival' especially when it fit his theme of kind of making an audio time capsule/scrapbook. And then "don't front" ends up a "bonus" cut :mindblown:

You honestly could have opened the album with that shyt.

Berzerk grew on me, Rap god, Brainless, monster got better with the video. Evil twin is :krs:

But overall some of the beats and hooks make it hard to listen to track for track.

Oh and unpopular opinion: Stronger Than I was is fukking dope. I actually wouldn't mind more songs like that from em if they were a little more toned down, shyt was smooth until he started screaming

Your insane lol. Encore has to be the worst album ever done by a good artist in any genre. If I was arguing with someone on why I have Eminem in my top 10.. and they pulled Encore out I can't say much :yeshrug:

MMLP2 was dope though.

I disagree. (this is long, and i'm an admitted stan, but this is real shyt)

Encore is interesting (and better than MMLP2) because if you listen/pay attention to the albums theme, artwork included it's literally an album about not wanting to make an album.

The Eminem Show's concept was loosely based on the movie "The Truman Show"......if you've ever seen that movie, IMAGINE for a second that after finding out his whole life (the industry) had been fabricated and that he was being used purely as entertainment without regard for his actual life that he was made to continue on with the show...

Encore, is indeed an "encore" to TES where you have revelations about the price of fame an the feelings of burn out that em was having being interscopes golden goose.

How do we go from a song like "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" where he's expressing how he wants to step away from the lime light, spend time with his little girl and get right with his wife only to turn around an release another album so quickly?

Some of the lyrics, the cover art, and the obvious trolling on several songs (I just did a whole song and I didn't say shyt) imply that if he had his way he would have taken a hiatus, yet the "show must go on" because he's the only one making them money.

He starts the album opener of his "encore" with this line.

"Lord forgive me for what I do, for I know not what I have done."

And ends it with these lyrics.

But life ain't a fairy tale
I'm about to be hoisted up in the air
Forty feet below me there's people everywhere
That I don't even know but who feel like they know me
'Cause I'm on this ferris wheel

And all I wanna do is go to the mall
And take Halie on the carousel
Without this crowd everywhere I go
But life is like a merry-go-round
Here we go now, do-si-do now
Curtains up the show must go now
Ring-around-the-rosy the show's over
You can all go home now

But the curtains just don't close for me
This ain't how fame was suppose to be
Where's the switch I can just turn off and on?
This ain't what I chose to be
So please God give me the strength
To have what it takes to carry on
Till I pass 50 back the baton
The camera's on, my soul is gone

"SOLD OUT"

He's basically admitting in the intro that this wasn't what he wanted to do, yet it still came out...."sold out" is the only conclusion.

He prays that 50 can become as big of a star to take the pressure off of him being the golden goose...not to mention this is the last official album before he tries to "kill" the alter ego that made him famous and ends up disappearing for like 5-6 years.

A decade later...and he's still carrying that load for the label...like I said, much more interesting of a listen than MMLP2 and Recovery for that matter.

Cool but is that your defense for the awful stuff on that album? Evil Deeds was a decent enough song but there is no defense for this

and that ain't even the worst song on the album. :snoop:

The wack songs were wack.

Songs like Mosh, Toy Soldier, Yellow Brick road, we as Americans....all powerful tracks that are better in content and execution than the best shyt from MMLP2.

Then you got good songs like evil deeds (one of my favorite songs from em), never enough, spend some time, crazy in love, some middle of the road shyt and about 3 or 4 of his worst songs ever.

And again...we're talking about an album, largely about not wanting to make an album. He was literally on some "here's the album, now leave me alone" type shyt.

It's why you see him pointing the gun at the fans. I offer up my pain and personal life to you for your entertainment, tell you I need a break...and you say Encore?

None of that excuses the wack shyt, but listening to it from his perspective makes for an interesting experience.

This.

Also....the album title shouldnt have been MMLP2 because it couldn't match the first one. Jay Z with Vol 2 and Rae with Cuban Linx 2 are examples of quality sequels. MMLP2 was not.

Title was fine when you actually get the aim of the record. Wasn't supposed to match or be a sequel, it was more like treating the original album like a time capsule, setting his issues out on the table again to see how differently he views them now.

I actually think the concept played out well, just that some of the beats and hooks didn't match the quality of the idea.

U lost me with that "it wasnt supposed to be a sequel" statement......and I disagree.....he shouldnt have titled it that. As a sequel It fell in the Blueprint2, Warning Shots2 category. Musically it sounded more like The Eminem Show 2

Em said it himself, which is why I compared it to a time capsule.

Eminem emphasizes that the album, which includes collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Nate Ruess and Rihanna (again), is "not necessarily a sequel, as much as it is a revisitation.

"So there's not gonna be, like, continuations of every old song on there or anything like that," he adds. "To me, it's more about the vibe, and it's more about the nostalgia."

We go from him suggesting that his mom drove his father away on the intro to the original to him now questioning what kinda father could be kept from his kids. Now he's apologetic to her and can empathize with her mental illness because he's become like her in many ways.

We go from deliberately abusing freedom of speech to being taken hostage by "Mathew" and being chastised and killed for becoming like the bullies that bullied him growing up.

It's like pulling out a scrapbook and comparing who you are now to those important moments in time and how your feelings have changed, that was the point of the album...shyt wasn't supposed to be like a movie franchise.

Wow I couldn't disagree more. Mosh is a dope song but Yellow brick road, We as Americans (was a bonus track by the way) and toy soilders are boring. Not bad but boring. "Spend some time" seems decent but only because it comes on after Puke, My first single and the rest of that garbage. Anything halfway decent woulda sounded good at that point of the album. Seriously that album has like a 6 song streak of some of the worst stuff ever done by a dope artist. It is a disgrace of a album lol. It's funny Em always disses replapse when this album is the one he should be dissing. It sure sounds like your trying to defend this trash.

MMLP 2 on the other hand Bad Guy, Rhyme or reason, Rap god, Evil Twin, Baby, Wicked Ways :ooh:

To even compare those tracks to the trash that was encore is insane.

We as Americans is fukking ILL to me because it was about a real topic..and you want to omit it because of it's being a bonus, yet pull "baby and wicked ways" out as if they aren't.

so much better
legacy (hook killed a potentially great song)
a$$hole
love game
so far

All songs I will never listen to again.

Replace bullishyt like that wit the bonus disc (besides baby, shyts weak) and "don't front" and you have a very nice album...that's what my custom copy looks like.
