polio is not eradicated. we got it as kids to prevent us from getting the most destructive strain(s).

we're also supposed to get HPV vaccines before having sex to prevent cancer when we get older. which some speculate is why it's so prevalent in younger and younger people

We got them as kids. It's eradicated here because of vaccinations. But a Jewish guy who was unvaccinated travelled to Israel and got polio and got paralyzed IIRC
