CHICAGO LEADS IN MURDERS EVERY YEAR,
AND LIL nikkaS LIKE KEEF ARE THE SHOOTERS/VICTIMS.

THERES KEEFS ALL OVER THE CITY.
HIS MESSAGE ABOUT TO BE IN OVERDRIVE THIS SUMMER,
AND WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH KILLINGS IN THE SUMMER.

THIS ISNT ABOUT NWA THIS IS ABOUT CHICAGO.
ONLY A FOOL WOULDNT BELIEVE MUSIC HELPS ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE.
THATS GOES FOR SEX, VIOLENCE, DRUGS ETC.

okay, well what about the early 90's, when we (chicago) didn't have ANY rappers?? nikkas was banging 10x worse then today..remember yummy? rap didn't have shyt to do wit that lil nikka being as wild as he was

focusing on rap is a easy target..thats just the surface and rhymefest knows it..he on his political shyt right now thats all.

EVERYBODY IN THE CITY WAS BUMPING DRE, QUIK, 8BALL, GETO BOYS,
AND ALL THE GANGSTA RAP YOU COULD THINK OF.

GANGSTA RAP WAS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH,
AND SO WERE THE DRIVEBYS.

shyt WAS A REAL LIFE "BOYZ IN DA HOOD" AROUND HERE,
AND nikkaS WAS DEFINITELY GETTING GASSED OFF THE LYRICS.

THE MURDER RATE HAS ACTUALLY DECREASED AS GANSTA RAPS POPULARITY HAS DECREASED.

Im not from Chicago obviously but isn't the situation out there, as far as jobs and people struggling, related to things much bigger than some 16 year old rapper?

I am not saying Rhymefest is wrong or trying to justify Chief Keef's music (I don't like it personally) but going off on him isnt going to stop gangsta rap and it is over simplifying the issues in the area. Its bigger than Hip Hop.

Most people have just accepted that's what the mainstream offers...plus the beats knock and these guys put it together in catchy ways so it can be entertaining, I can't even lie.
Yeah I listen to the shyt too. Probably more than "good" music. And to steal a quote from the dude Curtis Sc00n: "Dr.Dre wasn't the architect of gangster rap, Jimmy Iovine was. Hip Hop is not black culture. How can you something you don't own be your culture"

We tied ourselves to hip hop "culture" but then gave the culture to corporate interests. Corporations are always gonna shoot for the lowest common denominator cuz its more profit and easier to market which leads to pop songs and negative shyt...

I feel what ur trying to say.

And I think generally speaking, it's a couple of reasons

1. For those people who live that life, they are basically in a war. It's like they're constantly running from prison, the constantly running from death, and there constantly running from society who deems them as problematic, so for them, when they see an artist such as chief whose cut from that same cloth, it's like "this nicca understands me,

Word. And thats why I understand when Rhymefest says Keef is a "spokesman". Hes a familiar "authentic" face that Universal records is gonna use to sell some negative shyt to poor people. Just like McDonalds...

But we shouldn't be relying on corporations to give us positive culture or healthy food. People gotta look out for themselves...

It seems like you didn't read what Rhymefest wrote. He writes that this is bigger than rap music and how people like Chief Keef are just pawns in a more sinister game.

I read what he wrote. He spent 90% of the time talking down on Chief Keef, his style, and that brand of music. He spent far less time talking about anything else. He mentioned in passing that it is 'bigger than hip hop' but yet still felt the need to focus in on two rappers. Even the title of the article is focusing in on one small aspect and not bringing up the nuances of poor life in Chicago. It's not as simple as Chief Keef making a song about shooting a gun then people shoot guns after hearing it.

He called Chief Keef a 'bomb' that is going to destroy Chicago breh. The article wasn't about it being 'bigger than hip hop'
