When he’s not on the road getting paid to bash someone’s face in, Terry Gerin can be found at Dearborn City Council meetings, or chatting with members of the Wayne County Commission.
“I’ve always had an interest in politics,” he told The Press & Guide last year. “Whenever I can I make sure to go to meetings and stay involved.”
Now Gerin, known to professional wrestling fans at Rhino or Rhyno, is getting involved even more. Thursday he filed a petition to run for the State Representative in the August primary election.
“It's official, I'm on the ballot for State Representative. Hope I make you proud Dearborn, MI,” he tweeted along with a photo of himself wearing a gold blazer and a bow tie.
Gerin, who has been wrestling professionally for more than 21 years, said it’s the right time to get more involved locally.
“Let’s face it,” he said. “I could have lived anywhere in this country because of my job, but I’ve stayed here because it’s home. I love home.”
Gerin grew up in Dearborn Heights and attended Annapolis High School where he was an All City wrestler.
“I’m running because I love to help people.” he said, “to make their lives a little easier and someone they can be proud of. And I’m a workaholic.”
The seat he is running for in the 15th District, which covers a portion of Dearborn. George Darany currently holds the seat, he is term limited and can’t run again.
