According to the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) and Chart News, Nicki Minaj‘s latest studio album, The Pinkprint, has reached double Platinum status.

This means that the project has reached over 2 million sales since it was first released on December 15th back in 2014.

If you didn’t already know, the RIAA have adjusted its rules to let streaming count towards album certifications, which is why we didn’t hear about The Pinkprint going Platinum after going Gold last year.

Congratulations to the Young Money Barbie on this achievement!

Not a Nicki Fan, but I do feel bad for her since so many cacs and vultures has stolen our music.

If she was Iggy Whatever she would have done them 2 plats the first month-- then you got Adele selling like 5x plat already and NOT BEING FUNNY OR SARCASTIC, I STILL HAVE NOT ONE HEARD ONE SINGLE ON THE RADIO WHERE I LIVE (ATLANTA)

Anyway, respect to Nicki for IMO being one of the only female rappers that has the ability to write a rap-- her, Remy MA, and Charli baltimore THATS IT- the rest of them women rappers (mc lyte, da brat, iggy anything, mia x, lady of rage- i aint hearing that shyt)

receipts for this...prior to 08 I would easily buy 3-6 CDs a month, some months more...~$15 for a new $10 for used...that's easily $60/month, i now pay $10/month with an occasional digital purchase maybe every other month...that's no where near as much revenue as I used to put in the system.

yea but if you could have paid $10/month back then you would have. Not sure why this is so hard for some of you to understand. Times have changed.

In regards to Nicki, Pinkprint was her best album IMO, I liked it.

Basically it's a participation trophy. They didn't really earn it but to make the artist feel good they give them a trophy or in this case a platinum trophy. Plus the artist is getting fukked big time by streaming services they don't get a cut of that money the labels get it. It's the reason why Jay-Z and Taylor Swift wanted their music removed from those streaming services.

.
:what:
what does that have to do with them saying people pay more for music now than they did back then? most folks purchased at least 1 cd a month back then which was ~$15, now you have those same folks paying ~$10 (if that)...this has nothing to do with what i would've done , it's a direct comparison of what people DID to what they DO now

Nah, I like the new rules.

It puts the proper context on how music is consumed these days.

It was either this or lower the total units it took to receive gold or platinum.

It NEEDED to change to properly reflect today's music industry.

I agree. It's weird to me that people want albums to be held to 1996 standards when it's not 1996 anymore brehs... People don't buy albums :manny: #dassit

Artists should be recognized for streams, downloads, etc. because that's the way that music is consumed nowadays.

EDIT: And regarding Nicki specifically, Pink Print has moved 680,000 units (I just looked it up) which is an accomplishment but why shouldn't she be recognized for a million plus streams, as well?

It has to do with the options available today. If paying $10 a month for streaming services, or just out right bootlegging CDs wasn't an option today, then people would be doing the same thing they were doing years ago. :mindblown:Again why is this so difficult to comprehend. Times have change they don't have to buy CDs traditionally anymore and it is a lot more convenient to not have to.

breh, you're not saying anything i don't know, that's not what the conversation was about. the "study" said people spend more on music today than they did back when people purchased cd's, i just gave an example of how people were spending more (15/month >>> 10/month). this has nothing to do with "getting with the times"...some of yall just press reply to make a point that has no purpose in the conversation at hand.

You honestly think the average person was purchasing CDs at the rate you were? You would be an outlier and using yourself as an example is an extend exaggeration used to try and prove your point. I love music, I listen to it all day, however during those days I doubt I was buying more than 12 CDs a year

breh, i even said the rate of 1 cd a month is still more than a $10 subscription, which is a stretch as most folks are using spotify for free. i don't know how old you are, but when i was in middle school - high school, i can say the majority of my friends purchased at least 1 cd per month

Does this mean the artists gets more money???? Or are the artists getting fukked here?

I was reading that a lot of the artists don't like the change, despite them getting these plaques. I thougth that was strange

Are they still getting fukked out of bread?
I've no idea.
