Being from the Carolinas, when Ric dies shyt is gonna turn into a holiday because EVERYBODY including their grandma who hasn't watched wrestling in 30 years has rocked with Ric.

Word... I remember being down here to spend time with my grandparents, and my grandfather would about lose his mind when Dusty and Ric went at it. If I went with him to go get feed for the hogs, or any farm-related errands, wherever he would stop, invariably the conversation would turn to "Didja see ol' Dusty the other night?" I always thought it interesting how these people would be talking about dudes like Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Wahoo McDaniel, like they was their peoples. Then as I got older, I understood; they WAS their peoples.

Word bruh, back in the day like my grandparents would tell me NWA would come to all the little country towns like mine and put on shows at places like the high school football field and they would legit be hanging around town so people felt like they really knew these people.

I'm glad you mentioned Wahoo because I don't think a lot of people realize how loved he was too. Hell one that I never hear mentioned is Rufus R Jones but that's probably because he was from my area.

Yeah, the weekend after Dusty Rhodes passed I was driving from Raleigh to Charlotte to look for a car and I happened to be listening to some country-sounding dude on ESPN radio, talking about what Dusty meant to him and his family, playing that famous "hard times" speech, and callers were calling in talking about how they felt connections to those NWA wrestlers.

I grew up in Brooklyn, so I had to watch the WWF, and I always looked at it like :martin: because I loved the NWA style.
