NFL fans: Wow John Bosa had 2 sons become elite NFL players, what a great story :gladbron:

NBA fans: Let’s all pretend that NBA players having sons in the NBA is a major problem in an attempt to prop up the ‘90s. :lolbron:

If the kids in the hood get back to hooping all day, then things will shift back. They will pick up a different skill set than somebody that just works out with a trainer 24/7. Street ball is what made the greatest hoopers in the 70s - 90s
Yeah I wonder how much of this is a product of kids not being as outside as we were coming up. Kids have way more distractions than we did. We didn't have our own tv to sit around watching streaming or playing games all day. We was bored so we was outside playing ball. Now kids got their phones, and laptops and video games so less reason to be outside playing ball. Some still are obviously. However if they have a parent with hoop dreams for their kids and the means to pay for trainers it makes sense why the money is winning out.

Watching this over the past year, in relation to my son's 5th and now 6th grade school basketball team. 5th grade, they went 35-6. Right now in 6th grade, they are 6-5. What changed with the team? We brought in two kids with height. One that advanced analytics says is our fourth best player, the other isn't worth a quarter.

The biggest thing is what hasn't changed. Only two of the ten kids on the team play travel ball, my son and other kid. Unsurprisingly, the two best kids on the team. Seemingly now, all of the school teams are playing in the one day tournaments in the area and also playing my son's school team. These are the teams from the most affluent areas, i.e., the areas with more disposable income. Where I live, not everyone got it like that. Time or money. Fortunately, I'm good with both and I pour it into my son. It would help if they worked on their game during the Xmas break but I know that isn't happening.

The moral of this post is that I'm seeing, first hand, the effects of detriment of not doing it versus doing it. My son is going to be golden because this is the path he's on. The varsity head coach at the high school has long told him he's going to be on the varsity team as a freshman. He just needs to keep on the ascent he's on now. If your kid has an iota of talent, explore it if they can handle the grind and see where it goes. Unless they are a prodigy, they will get left behind. I see that with his current school team.
