As far as "promoting" violence, some rappers may rap about it, but it's so cartoonish that it's not even really influencing anybody.
Cats like Ross, Jadakiss, Cam'ron, have lines/stories so ridiculous that you know it's entertainment, regardless if they actually participated in criminal activity on some level.
Then you got guys like 50, Jeezy, Game, Yo Gotti, Pusha T, that paint that real life picture and kinda give it a "cool" edge. To me, this is more influential and more likely to steer a young person in the wrong direction.
Jay-Z does it as well. His verse on "Seen It All" was borderline reprehensible for a 45 year old man to be spitting. Although, I did like the verse, admittedly.
