So. Cal
Again, Anthony Fantano is prob just as knowledgeable if not more than that VJ. Lets just be honest. It doesnt matter how knowledgeable someone is about music. Their opinion only counts if it matches yours.
You got that from what exactly:stopitslime:. I dont even like the ross album like that.

ok lil krs, what does it takes to be part of the culture these days?

Being a part of the street or promo team.

Even though I could care less about what a reviewer has to say about anything, rap needs dissenting voices.

Every blogger and reviewer who is "a part of the culture" is in the pocket of the major record labels. Half the Ross defenders on the Internet are members of his street team. So if the only way to bring back any integrity to the culture is to have people from outside the culture weigh in, at this point, I'm all for it. Especially considering that most records are sold and aimed at people outside of the culture.

An interesting thing with Ross's album is that he's getting great reviews from hiphop people and bad reviews from non-hiphop people.
Which is the case with a lot of commercial hiphop albums.

These days I only look at hiphop reviews from hiphop people.
Cause even though the hipsters tend to write better reviews, they're only really knowledgeable about pop & rock.
If you don't even know the history of the type of music Rick Ross makes, the place in history for that type of rap, what his referencing in his songs etc.. Why the hell would I care about what you have to say about his music?

Only good song imo is War Ready, and thats because the hook and the beat.Wouldve been much better if Mike Will gave the beat to Gucci. He destroyed both Ross and Jeezy on their own track.

Needle Drop does great reviews most of the time. He's honestly one of the few really critical ears left out there who isn't just giving an artist a good/great score just because the artist has sold well a few times. And whether I agree with his reviews or not, I always walk away from them with two things: knowing that he took a definite stance with how he feels about the album, and that he explained his stance clearly. And I think he covers rap pretty well. Him being white has nothing to do with it.

All that said, this review was beneath him. If he didn't want to review it, he should've just not made the video. Don't make a video and act like you're above reviewing it if you're just going to clown; the album has gotten some decent reviews, and there are people who take his music, and him as a reviewer, seriously enough to warrant either a real review or nothing at all.
Fantano is the only music critic I fuxx with period. He gets it right and he reviews music across sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many genres, you can't help but respect it.

Indeed. There are a lot of reviews of his that I disagree with, but he takes clear stances, and he backs up his points. That's all I can ask for.

you taking about Matt fukking Pinfield??? That dude hated and knew nothing about hip hop.
Matt Pinfield got exposed over the years IMO as not that knowledgeable about music as he claimed to be. People thought he was like the foremost critic, like myself...lol.

Damn, that took me back.

Years ago I was at a restaurant somewhere in Manhattan and ran into Pinfield in the bathroom. He was in there yammering on with the patrons of the water closet about rock music. dude takes music seriously.
