Post-knee surgery, I wouldn't say he's been a flop. But I agree that he's been disappointing. The idea is that you have to have an elite talent to build a franchise around, to get fans to show up, to garner any kind of support financially.
(I'm assuming Love is leaving in this scenario) And Rubio is your only shot at that. If that babyface, Uno Direccion looking muthafukka can't put it together, or you're willing to trade him... just pack up the arena and move the team to Kansas City.
Rubio is an upper echelon passer, he's hyper creative with the ball in his hands... the problem is, you don't have to worry about him scoring, and that definitively limits his ability to create. If he can't develop a jumper (because he'll likely never be able to finish consistently around the hoop) they're in a bad spot.
