This will merit a deeper treatment at some point, but it's time to have a serious discussion about Rubio's shooting. The honeymoon has to end sometime — might as well be now. Rubio is shooting 36.9 percent, and through three partial seasons and 3,700 minutes, he's a career 36 percent shooter

... But his shooting is a problem. Rubio is on pace to be the worst shooter in the modern history of the NBA. Since the inception of the league, 61 total players have logged at least 5,000 career minutes and finished with a field goal mark of 38 percent or worse. Fifty-nine of those guys began their careers in 1965 or earlier; the other two are Eddie Griffin and Daequan Cook, who did not make it far beyond the 5,000-minute threshold.

Rubio's poor shooting has real consequences, and they go beyond the obvious "guys go way under screens on the pick-and-roll" stuff.

...Rubio shoots in the mid-40s on attempts in the restricted area, a terrible mark, and he's not a willing shooter even from close range. There's a reason Rubio so often dribbles down one side of the floor, under the basket, and back out the other side: He can't find a clean passing lane and he's reluctant to shoot.

i saw the numbers the other day and what's even more fukked up is that he has a better chance of hitting a 3 pointer than andre drummond does of hitting a free throw.

While Rubio can't shoot a lick, he's still very valuable player. His court vision is phenomenal, he's a maestro with the rock, and he has great pace. He also plays the passing lanes well on the defensive side. The fact that he can't shoot, is a testament to his floor general skills, being that he is still a very effective player.

If Minny makes the playoffs, his lack of shooting will definitely be "exposed" more, and maybe that will be the motivation he needs to improve his jumper. But he probably won't improve the jumper that much, although he is still super young, so he has a shot (no pun intended)

Who knows, he might be close to his ceiling, but as is, he is still a very decent player :manny:

He shoot 32 % from 3 with 2 attempts per game for his career though. Yes he is a very bad shooter right now, but he has time to develop that part of his game, he is only 23. Jason's Kidd's first three seasons were around 37% shooting, and he turned into a reliable 3 point shooter late in his career. I see Rubio being that kind of player

Man, mainstream always catches on late. Brandon Jennings was shytted on by scouts and analysts before he even played a minute in the NBA; John Wall has had his game picked apart every step of the way. Finally, someone is critical of scout and analyst favorite Rick Ruby. And let me be clear that I don't like Jennings that much, and he deserves criticism. I just think evenhanded criticism takes a backseat to popular narrative too often.

I was kickin it with Tre in another thread about this, because recently I went to a T-Wolves game and saw up close how much Ricky's limited offense is hindering the Wolves. It's not just that he can't shoot, it's that he doesn't have the confidence to shoot or drive. Seeing him in person it's cringeworthy to watch him pass on driving lanes, pass on open shots, etc.

That said, seeing him in person drove home his overall brilliance as a basketball player. His anticipation on both ends is preternatural, man. He has it. @tremonthustler1 said he wants Rubio to cultivate a floater. That would help a lot. He needs to spend a summmer with both Sam Cassell, Tony Parker, and Chip Engellund. I still believe in Rick the Ruler because if he can become more dynamic as a scorer he will completely dominate games. And you can't give up on that sort of potential.

He shouldnt take jumpshots. Just imitate rondo. I think he does at the very least need to work on his slashing/driving to the hoop game
