I am 29, so the late 90's are tinged with such a nostalgic light, that was when I really got into the game....Watching MTV Jams in the morning before school, rap was such a force back then.... I randomly remembered Master P's 1999 'Only God Can Judge Me' which I copped in 99, and actually got a free copy, as Master P was playing for the San Diego Stingrays, semi pro league, and a family member worked with that project. Embarassment all around....but thats another story.....The single was the aptly titled 'Step To Dis' and when I went for a quick shot of nostalgia......I had forgotten some of these videos, the funniest thing is these videos were the norm back then, quick million dollar video shoot...no big deal. Some are classic, and some are just embarassing...

Master P really took the 'Soldier' thing to heart, he had a convoy of hummers and various amphibious vehicles racing down a beach, as well as ol Percy himself running in slow motion for no readily apparent reason and an entire cast of extras and flunkies in full on soldier gear.....After a badly directed action sequence straight out of 'Mission Impossible II'.....This is the 90's excess at it's worst, not to mention the poorly crafted lyrics and Master P flaunting his alleged basketball skills, which I can assure you from watching him live aren't quite NBA caliber.

That Layzie Bone example is perfect, why did everyone in this era (with the budget) have to do a James Bond (Roger Moore era) impression? With elaborate costumes and set pieces for some shyt that has NOTHING to do with the songs title or content....

Not to forget the post apocalyptic videos, where for no apparent reason (yes I get 'Nastradamus and 2000 but still) the video is shot and designed like some sort of 'Mad Max' tribute.....

dead at Nas playing with the tv's in the beginning....still dope to see Nas and that QB chain spitting grimy bars over that track.

Or the soundtrack video with the very dope and creative concept of LL rapping from the perspective of a fukking great white shark...

'battle to the death thats how sharks play'

'I'll eat your ancestors....the ocean is haunted'

'underwater storms your blood is so warm...your life vest is off and thats TURNS ME ONNNN'

what we talking about here? over the top with the money or the lifestyle or just plain stupid shyt... the 90s had plenty of both... i remember taping videos on vhs tapes... SLP mode... i still got like 24 hours worth of videos at my moms crib somewhere in some boxes... 90s was the best of that shyt... now all we get is the same tired 3 scenes
