Chris Lighty, shown here with Sean "Diddy" Combs, was found dead outside his Bronx apartment Thursday.
Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after he shot himself after an argument with his estranged wife at his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News.

Lighty, 44 — a longtime manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — stepped outside his South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., after a spat with his wife, Veronica, police sources said.

Suddenly, a gun shot was heard and Lighty was found lying faceup with a 9-mm. pistol next to his body, sources said.

Law enforcement sources said Lighty — whose wife filed for divorce last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

Lighty, founder of Violator Management, merged with another talent company to form Primary Violator around the time of his divorce.

Musicians began Tweeting about Lighty soon after news of his death spread.

“R.I.P CHRIS LIGHTY THE MAN THAT SAVED MY LIFE!!!” Bronx rapper Fat Joe posted on Twitter. “I Would Be Nothing Without YOU!!! My Kids Appreciate YOU God Bless Chris Lighty.”

Wow, Peace Chris. Anyone who's an 70's and 80's baby knows very well what Chris did for the game. I had to school some youngin's today. One thing I did love about Chris is he always told it like it was for new artist in the industry. He always stressed that you must have long term plans and goals and not think you are going to get a quick buck in the game. He learned that from years of grindin. Just the fact he was managing Mariah, LL and Diddy alone lets you know he delt with some huge people. It's sad he didn't want to live anymore if the suicide is true.

I have always been against suicide. I feel whatever you are going through they are most likely fixable issues. But as years have gone on I've learn to understand it. It's still a selfish act but sometimes for some people life is too much. I won't even dignify the rumors of Beefing with Wifey or Tax Issues that's just he media trying to find an understanding why he would kill himself at a young age of 44. Also he had kids so I just don't understand it. Peace be with him in his journey. That 1st Violator Compilation was so sick, I copped it 1st day.
