I think I'd say RIP Gonzaga's rep. But the Mid-Majors had legit teams this year. St. Louis, VCU, Butler, and Wichita State are actually good teams. I've watched more college basketball this past year than usual (and I usually watch a lot to begin with) and none of those teams were overrated. Middle Tennessee was some bullshyt, I'll give you that.

New Mexico choked, plain and simple. They had a team capable of a Final Four run. Losing to Harvard is inexcusable. Alford is a fukking dipshyt. UNLV got fukked with a rematch in a road game against a lower seed.

The tourney is always weird because you can never predict when talent will overcome mediocre coaching and/or its own underachieving. I never knew what to expect from Minnesota, UNLV, Michigan, Iowa State and North Carolina all year, game to game, half to half.

On another note, shouldn't JT III be fired at this point? If Howland can go to 3 straight Final Fours and recruit NBA talent but still get kicked to the curb, how can anyone justify keeping JT III around?

the fact that some of these teams were knocked out by other mid-majors, kinda defeats the purpose.

gonzaga lost to a wichita st team that iirc, may have been ranked higher than them at one point. and that southern squad was only a 16th seed because they play in an hbcu conference.

harvard is a dope low-major school, or whatever you call it.

oregon's seeding is horrifying. in the process, st louis got screwed, as well as oklahoma st, even tho theyre not a mid-major, that one hurt me personally. that team is entertaining.

and unlv got screwed over big time. a rematch in a virtual away game.

im shocked st louis didnt make the sweet 16. team was too good to bow out that early. unlv had elite talent and a middle school coach. i literally could have been the coach this season and the result, a first round tourney exit, would have been the same. they set gonzaga up to fail by giving them the winner of the pitt/wichita matchup, two teams who should have been seeded way higher. no excuse for new mexico. amaker is a clown. they had their shot. vcu simply ran into a better squad. that happens in 4-5 games quite often. this tourney is the "mid major killer" yet georgetown will be right back in a high seed next season, ripe for the pickings of a well coached, double digit tourney seed. mid majors arent going anywhere, they tried to fukk teams like davidson (when curry was there) yet they slayed the giants and were a missed shot from the final four. vcu was in the fukking play in game, yet ran through squads. they tried to fukk butler the second time around after an improbable finals appearance, back in the title game they went. mid majors arent going anywhere as long as the majors stay with the mediocre ass play/coaching. teams like memphis and unlv are a coach away from being legit contenders, even though the ncaa despises them

cosign this entire post, aside from the tommy amaker comment.

dude has changed the landscape, style and recruiting approach of the ivy league. and next year's harvard team is gonna be way better than this sqyad.

but yea, daps to everything else.

La Salle, Wichita State and Florida Gulf Coast in the Sweet 16. Creighton might make it too.

My statement was more so about seeding in the future versus the quality of the teams. St. Louis, VCU, New Mexico, Butler, and even Gonzaga were legit teams this year but because of this bad performance that will be held against them.

It bullshyt like @Absolut said because Georgetown will run over the new Big East next year and get another high seed and flame out early again. They like the Purdue of this era.

He should be fired. They have lost to a double digit seeded team four or five times now.. but I wonder how much influence John Thompson still has over the program.
A lot

but Georgetown are in a weird state. Are they really a desirable job? I am not convinced.

But JT3 really should get them deavors for this performance. He would at other schools, but he will never at GTown.

The shame of it - and this is completely my opinion, I certainly can't prove it - is that St. Louis and New Mexico were seeded too low. Sadly, both of them shyt the bed. But based on what I watched all year, they were really good teams. Georgetown was getting by on Smoke & Mirrors, luck, one outstanding player, and an overrated conference (outside of Louisville). I expected nothing from them in the tourney. Same with Gonzaga and St. Mary's, both seemed overrated to me (though I didn't think Gonzaga would look quite as bad as they did).

no breh. Im talking about the "emergence" movement, not these upsets. The high seeding is my focus.

I got ya. Gonzaga should never be given a seed higher than 6 until they make noise in the tournament again or at least beat some quality teams in the regular season.

heck yeah. I knew New Mexico would not get a number one seed, but I never felt they were a worse team than Gonzaga.

And I got onto St. Louis too late in the year, but I saw they were smacking the shyt out of Butler and VCU who were legit and have some cachet.

I think Gonzaga falure will have the most reverberations tho.

yeah, Gonzaga may never get higher than a 3 seed again based on this performance. They would have to beat strong teams in the regular season to get that love again. Cant remember the last time Gonzaga has done that.

I mean, Gonzaga didn't play particularly well....but WSU shot 14-26 from 3 after shooting 32% on the season.

But this loss will definitely cripple their rep. I understand the problem people have with the, but there's only so much they can do. They can't change their conference, and there's only so many huge non-conference games you can have.

At some point, they need to make another run in March. It's killing me.
