I seldom believe that any man is a "better man" than myself, but-

Him being able to stand up for his beliefs and do basically a 1/4 of his life behind bars?

Although I could see the argument for him giving CAC's the business after his release, he is one of the few men who actually practiced what he preached. He knew that his peaceful actions were more effective and more righteous than any masure of retaliation.
