Bless up.

I wonder if the NFL players & their mental status will be discussed. Seems like things keep getting swept under the rug
I believe there’s been an increase in young black male suicides over 160% over the last few years or some shyt. I think accelerated during Covid . This shyt is bigger than the league. I’m not sure what the fukk is going on. This shyt is becoming an epidemic

Yep, sure has been. There’s a lot more I want to say but putting it on here absent of tone and intent would start some dumb ass arguments. All I will say is yep, it’s an epidemic but because it’s affecting and impacting who it is, no one will give a fukk. And I say that as someone who’s been going to some form of therapy for close to 20 yrs now. People like to think you can get your mind right within a few visits and claim you’ve “done the work” but real talk, mental health is a lifelong exercise in patience and keen, disciplined self awareness. But to your post:

For age-specific shifts before and just after 2019:
  • Youth (10–24 years): Suicide rates among Black males aged 10–24 increased markedly from 2018 to 2021 — e.g., an approximate 36.6 % rise reported for this age group over that period.
  • Adults (25–44, 45–64): Between 2018 and 2023, rates increased significantly among Black males aged 25–44 (~29 %) and 45–64 (~17 %).

Dude tore his ACL last season too. Prob seen the writing on the wall for his career. Not a lot of 5’8” 180 wrs in the league. RIP regardless
But damn he made $12 million in his short career the last 5 years. assuming he managed his money ok he still should have been good for a little while and only 25 no way you should be think it’s over at this stage

RIP this really sucks to hear

Sometimes people who are about to commit suicide will reach out to people to finish business or "say goodbye" indirectly. I've seen/heard of people returning things they owe (money, books etc) before the day they die. I've also heard they may sometimes be very happy and upbeat the day they commit suicide because they're happy they're about to no longer feel pain.

.what's the rate increase for black females as well as for non black males or males in general during that time?

Suicide suicidal ideation self destructive behavior etc etc is and has been too widespread and enduring to continue to interpret it through an individual to individual mental health approach

If we don't expand the field of consideration into society and segments of society at large then we'll just keep up this rhetorical wheel spinning.

Im not confident of such being taken on in any sanctioned institutional manner as that's an anti-american approach as it challenges the mythology of personal success vs personal failures and fate.

The bio psycho social health model is something useful to look into
